Alexa’s face turned pale with panic as she hurriedly picked up her daughter.
"Stella… Stella!" she called out desperately, tears coming to her eyes.
Lucas frantically rummaged through the drawer next to the sofa, searching for medicine. Their actions made me believe that this was not a first time thing.
He picked up a small white bottle and unscrewed it, only to find it empty. A wave of frustration and helplessness washed over his face. He continued rummaging through the drawer.
I could not bear to see my brother like this, so I stepped forward, my voice calm but firm. "Let me take a look!"
I had already noticed that Stella’s complexion was off, her body frail and weak, the sickness looked familiar to me but I should not be sure until I checked for myself. While Alexa’s attitude toward me had been harsh, the child was innocent.
More importantly, she was my brother’s daughter, and Lucas had already sacrificed too much.
Alexa placed her daughter on the sofa, but her gaze was fierce as she yelled, "Go away! Don’t touch my daughter!"
Lucas, desperate, took out his phone and dialed an emergency number. His face fell as he listened to the response.
"The hospital won’t take her anymore," he muttered, his voice breaking. In a fit of rage, he smashed his phone on the ground.
There was no time to argue.
I stepped in, quickly locating the necessary acupoints on Stella’s small frame. My fingers moved with precision as I applied pressure to stop the bleeding.
Unaware of my intentions, Alexa swung her hand back in anger, delivering a slap aimed directly at me.
Even in a situation like this, she still hated me.
I suddenly turned around, my sharp gaze carrying a cold breath, staring straight at her. She could hate me whenever she wanted, but not when stellas life was in danger like this.
She instinctively stopped her hand, her hand hanging in the air.
The fierce look in my eyes stopped her from hitting me.
She suddenly looked frightened, because she realized who she was trying to hit. Maybe she finally remembered that I just got out of prison and hitting me would not be a good decision.
If she hit me and anything went wrong with Stella, it would hurt Lucas, and I would not let her go easily.
I finally withdrew his gaze from her when she put her hands down and calmly said, "If you don't want your daughter to die, shut up!"
Lucas stood behind her, a look of relief on his face that his wife didn't slap me, and let out a sigh of relief.
He probably always had issues with her due to the conditions of their marriage and would not have brought me here if he knew that she was here.
Alexa turned away from me and started to vent all her anger on Lucas and angrily shouted, "You useless thing! If anything happens to my daughter, both of you will be buried with her!"
Lucas trembled with anger, his fists clenched tightly together, like a fierce beast about to wake up from its slumber.
I sighed deeply.
It seems Lucas has not been as well off as he had made me believe all these years
But it was to be expected, what kind of status could a matrilocal son-in-law have in his own home?
Now was not the time to dwell on it. I opened Stella’s mouth and looked inside it.
There was no coating on her tongue, but faint black lines ran across it.
These lines were difficult for the naked eye to notice, but I had been trained medically to see it.
I furrowed my brow and asked, "How long has she had this illness?"
Lucas released his clenched fists and quickly replied, "Approximately... three months!"
As soon as he answered, Stella started convulsing violently again.
Black lines appeared on her fair and delicate neck, quickly spreading to her face.
It was...
Alexa’s expression changed dramatically, and she urgently shouted, "What did you do to my daughter?"
“She has gotten sick before, but this kind of situation has never happened. It must be the doing of this murderer.” she screamed
I paid no attention to her as the realization of the situation dawned on me finally.
"It is a toxic disease called Hemotoxin. How could it appear in this country?"
Hemotoxin was a toxic disease caused by a type of bacteria that could parasitize the host’s body, surviving by devouring red blood cells and taking six months to mature.
Mature toxic bacteria could spread through droplets, leading to unimaginable consequences!
Six years ago, the Umbra Special Forces team had a top-secret mission to destroy a toxic laboratory that intentionally created this toxic disease for biological warfare
No wonder Kade said those people were unredeemable!
I shook these memories from my head and immediately went into action. Any time wasted could cost Stella her life.
I took out an acupuncture bag from the cloth bag I had brought with me.
I opened the bag, revealing a row of neat and orderly needles inside.
Seeing this, Alexa immediately stepped forward to pull me away from Stella, saying, "Stay away from my daughter, you murderer!"
If it weren't for my sharp gaze earlier, she would have directly attacked me.
My brother did not try to fight with her. Instead he tried to plead with her
"At this critical moment, let him try. We do not have any other option”
"Try?" she asked, bewildered
"He's using acupuncture. He knows what he is doing. He would not have the instruments if he did not know what he was doing"
That did not put her to rest. Instead, she kept shouting, and her spit landed on Lucas's face.
“A murderer who went to prison at twenty, and he dared to learn acupuncture from others! Even the highly paid, experienced Chinese medicine doctor hired by my family ro treat Stella didn’t dare to use acupuncture easily. So where did your murderous brother get the courage?”
Ignoring her tantrums, I picked up a silver needle and pierced it into one acupoint on Stella’s neck with total concentration.
"Stop, you brute!"
Alexa’s anger rose to its peak, and she kicked me.
Lucas stepped forward and held her back, "Alexa, the hospital won’t accept her anymore. We do not have any other choice. Are you really going to watch her die?"
I looked at Stella and realized that the toxins in her blood had almost reached an incurable level. If left untreated, Stella might not survive for long.
Alexa turned around and slapped Lucas to the ground, saying, "If it weren’t for Stella, do you think you’d have the comfortable life you have now? If anything happens to her, go jump off a building!"
While focusing on the acupuncture treatment, I said coldly, "If I can’t cure my niece, I will take responsibility with my life!"
My tone was resolute and left no room for argument.
Alexa sharply shouted, "Do you think your worthless life can compare to my daughter’s?"
As soon as her words fell, I suddenly stood up.
I slowly turned around, my icy eyes filled with a chilling sharpness.
Alexa started trembling all over and immediately closed her mouth.
I withdrew his gaze and squatted in front of the sofa to continue needling.
Acupuncture was the most commonly used treatment method in traditional Chinese medicine, capable of unblocking meridians, reinforcing the body, and removing harmful elements. I had exceptional talent and had learned my master’s superb medical skills in just half a year.
After about ten minutes, Stella’s neck and arms had been pricked with at least ten silver needles.
I was sweating profusely, concentrating as I manipulated the moxibustion needles.
Lucas was restless, even more nervous than I was.
I knew that he was worried about his daughter’s safety but he was also worried about me as usual.
He knew that I was a principled person who always did the things I said.
But Stella’s illness had stumped even renowned medical professors. Could I really save her?
If something happened to Stella, I would have to follow through with my promise to Alexa.
On the sofa, Stella’s eyelashes twitched slightly.
Then, she slowly opened her eyes.
Lucas was overjoyed and immediately said to Alexa, "Our baby has woken up, she woke up!"
Alexa hurriedly came to Stella’s side and reached out to touch her head, asking, "Baby, how do you feel?"
Stella weakly said, "Mom... I have no strength... I don’t feel anything in my whole body!"
Upon hearing this, Alexa immediately looked at Nathan and asked, "What did you do to her? Why is she like this?"
Although her tone was still cold, it lacked the previous arrogance, since her daughter had woken up.
I explained, "The weakness is because I sealed her acupuncture points, and her lack of strength is because the energy and nutrients in her body have been consumed by the bacteria. She should eat more supplements these days, and she’ll recover in a couple of days!"
As soon as I finished speaking, Stella suddenly vomited a mouthful of blood.
