Chapter 5: Fated to two

930 Words
Devon’s POV Never thought I would be given a mate by the moon goddess. Ever since I got betrayed by my ex-girlfriend, the concept of love vanished from my heart, leaving my chest filled with only pack duties. As the Lycan king of the black woods pack, it was my duty to provide a Luna and since Stephanie was betrothed to me, why not mark her as my mate? The silver haired girl appeared from nowhere, seizing my heart in a heartbeat. It was the mate bond, I knew, but then, her sky blue eyes kept doing something to me—something Stephanie couldn’t have achieved in years. I felt attracted to her, attracted to her voice, her scent, her innocent looks. Even though trusting her was quite hard, I still couldn't handle being wicked to her. I found Stephanie humiliating her and all I felt was rage. I had no idea why she couldn't stand up for herself. What if she was a slave? Stephanie had no right to order her around. Immediately after breakfast, I dragged her upstairs despite her protests, “why did you allow her to shove you around like a piece of rag? You're my guest, my mate. If you don't give yourself that respect, no one will bow to you.” “I'm a slave.” Her soft voice grazed my ears, “over the years, I've been thought to keep quiet to survive. She is a lady, someone higher than me, more valuable than my whole life. Yelling at her could get me killed.” “Even in my territory?” She remained quiet, lowering her gaze, as we walked through the hallway. I pushed a door open and led her inside, “this would be your room for now.” Her eyes darted around the whole place, taking in the magnificence of the room. She swallowed hard, balling her hands into fists, “this is too much. I'm an omega, I don't deserve something like this.” “Even if you're an omega, you aren't subjected to torture. I don't know how much you went through in the past, but you deserve good things as well.” I sighed, taking slow strides towards the window. I pulled the curtains aside, allowing soft rays of the early morning sun seep in, “What's your name? Sorry I left abruptly last night.” “Harlow.” She replied, standing close to the door, “duty calls, I understand. You're a Lycan king.” I nodded, leaning on the wall, as I took in her appearance. Her silver hair was roughly scattered across her face, her lips were chapped and her skin was extremely pale. There were slight red bruises on her arm, her hands frail and even her dress was ridiculous. I'd always been against the idea of keeping a slave, it made me wonder how much torture she went through to look this way. “Did you escape from the dungeons alone?” She shook her head, biting her lips, as her toes curled up, “my mother helped me escape.” “And where is she?” “The pack warriors shot her.” She whimpered, clutching her dress so hard that her knuckles turned white, “she sacrificed herself to save me. I was still mourning her death when your men came for me.” “Why were you placed in the dungeons? Did you commit a crime?” Harlow shook her head, taking in a deep, steady breath, “I…i did nothing.” she stuttered, “It's..normal for slaves to be treated that way.” “There's something you're not telling me.” I took slow strides towards her, towering over her small frame, “Your Alpha wouldn't be so insensitive to trap an innocent girl for nothing. You must have committed a grave crime, something unforgivable.” Her hands trembled, her eyes darting around the whole place. Her racing heartbeat echoed loudly in my ears, slamming hard against her ribcage. She was definitely hiding something. I leaned closer, only an inch away from her face, “You're compelled to tell me the truth, Harlow. You can't hide things from your mate.” “The..the Alpha was my mate.” She blurted out, taking me by surprise, “but he rejected me and had me imprisoned.” “It makes no sense.” I pulled away, confused, “You can't be fated to two. It's impossible.” She swallowed hard, “that's if you don't want to believe me. I'm telling the truth. I committed no grave crime.” Apart from the fact that she had silver hair, she was mated to a werewolf and a Lycan? It'd never happened before. Never in the history of werewolves and Lycans. I took in a deep breath and nodded, “have some rest and freshen up. There are a few dresses in the closet.” I turned away and headed for the door. She wrapped her fingers around my arm, holding me in place, “you don't believe me, do you?” Her gaze lingered on me, setting my heart ablaze with a single emotion. I stared at her, lost in her eyes for a few seconds. I shook my head and pulled her hands away, “I never said anything about that.” I opened up the door and walked away. Just as I strode down the stairs, one of my warriors, Reed, ran towards me, “Lycan king Devon, there's a witch sighted at the border of the pack!”
