The Dark Sea

The sky had slowly grown dark throughout the day, showing the signs of us approaching the Dark sea. "Captain, a storm is on the horizon!" Jonah informed me.     "Aye, it appears so." I responded. Lightening struck in the distance, only confirming what we knew. "Keep an eye open sailors! The Dark Sea is full of dangers. We now enter uncharted waters." I grinned. "Tarrant, once the wind gets stronger, the sails need to go up. I do not want them tearing during the storm."         "Yes, Captain Moon." Tarrant began to call out orders as the wind decided to quickly pick up. I put my right hand on the wheel and my left to hold onto my hat. The waves hit the boat, causing the wood to groan in protest. The ship rocked back and forth, forcing many to sailors to grab onto the railings.     "David, Tarrant, come over here and take the wheel!" I ordered. They rushed over, stumbling along the way. "Alexis, tell everyone to tie ropes around themselves. I don't want anyone going overboard!" I shouted over the screaming of the wind.      I stumbled over to the side of the ship. The waves are slowly growing. The thunder is is roaring and the wind is screaming. When the lightening strikes, I see something move in the water. It's twice the size of the ship. I only wish that I can make out what is. I couldn't worry over it though. I have to make sure that my crew is safe.     "Everyone has a rope around themselves except for you and me." Alexis shouted above the wind. I nodded and tossed her a rope. She tied the rope around her waist before looking back up at me. Her eyes widen in horror as they flickered past me. I turned around, horror rushing through me as a giant wave towered over the ship.      One of the sailors jumped at me as soon as the wave hit us. I gasped as the freezing water hit me. Water rushed into my mouth, choking me as it entered my lungs. The sailors arms tightened around me, making sure I wouldn't slip from his grasp as another wave hit.      I managed to stand up after a short while. The crew struggled to stay on their feet after the wave dispersed from the ship. Lightening struck again. A gasp came from Alexis. I closed my eyes, praying to God that it wasn't another wave. I turned, making out a figure coming out of the water. "Well shit." I muttered.     "What the hell is that?" David shouted above the wind.     "A creature of the sea! Whatever it is, it's ugly, has a lot of tentacles, and will most likely try to kill us!" I shouted. A roar, that sounded like thunder, echoed through the stormy sky. Following the roar was an ear breaking screech. Another creature, twice the size of the first, emerged from the water. The ship rocked dangerously. That's when I got the idea.     "Have a group go under and prepare the cannons!" I ordered David. "Those creatures are creating this storm. I don't know what they are, but they will kill us if they live!" David nodded before rushing to do as told.     "Alexis, gather a group up here to take charge of the cannons!" I shouted. I rushed up to the wheel to help Tarrant focus the wheel. He looked at me gratefully before focusing on the task at hand. We struggled to control the wheel.     "Captain, we are ready to take orders!" Alexis shouted from below. I looked down and saw that she was indeed ready to take orders. All the cannons are pointed at the creatures.      "Fire!" I shouted. Alexis repeated the order and I could distantly hear David do the same thing. The sky echoed with the sound of the cannons. Roars of anger filled the air as the creatures were hit. Lightening struck the water not far from us. Thunder roared with such viciousness, it reminded me of a bomb from a movie I watched as a child.      I looked around and beckoned for a sailor to help Tarrant at the wheel. I ran below deck. "Captain, your orders?" David asked, worry lacing his voice.      "I want those cannon balls lit up. I want those creatures dead before they have the chance to hurt us! I want this storm to end and that means killing those things." I took a cannon ball, setting it on fire. I then put a spell to keep the fire from going out. I continued to do that for each cannon. I stood at the opening to the top deck. I got Alexis attention. "FIRE!"     "FIRE!" David shouted.     "FIRE!" Alexis screamed. The ship jerked as the cannons went off. A pained screech filled the air as the creatures were hit. They lit up like a bon fire at a celebration. The cannons got filled once more, not giving the creatures time to recover. Slowly, ever so slowly, the first creature fell. The wind began to slowly die down. With one last shot from the cannons, the final creature went under.      After thirty minutes, the storm subsided, giving into a clear sky and calm seas. I grinned. Jonah came up to me. "You, and everyone else on this ship, are crazy! I cannot believe you just pulled that off. You weren't bothered by the danger. I have got to say, I really am impressed."     "Ah, Jonah, Jonah, Jonah, of course you are impressed. It's not the first time we faced something like that. The sea is full of creatures that nobody knows of. We just happen to be the ones to run into them. It sucks, but it gets the adrenaline pupping, ya know? Mr. William's, thank you for saving my life. I promise you will be greatly rewarded once we return home."     "Serving you is award enough, Captain." He bowed.     "Very well, but never bow to me again. Don't lower yourself to such things. Now, everyone back to work. We have things to do!" I declared. "Another wonderful ending to another wonderful day."
