Prescott’s POV
I was leaning back in my office chair, feet propped on the desk, scrolling through my phone when the door opened without a knock. Only one person in this building has the nerve to walk in like he owned the place…because actually he did.
My father, Dominic Zane, stepped inside wearing that rare, almost boyish smile he only showed when something actually excited him. I raised an eyebrow.
“This better be good,” I said, tossing my phone onto the desk. “You’re interrupting my very important schedule of doing nothing.”
He chuckled and closed the door behind him. “I have news.”
“If it’s about another merger, I’m not interested today.”
“I’m getting married.”
I stared at him for a second, then let out a short humorous laugh. “You’re joking.”
“I’m not.” He walked over and sat on the edge of my desk like we were old friends instead of father and son. “Her name is Elena Martins. We’ve been seeing each other for a few months. She’s… different. She makes me feel alive again.”
I tilted my head, studying him. My father hadn’t looked this light in years. Not since my mother left. Still, the idea of him remarrying felt strange.
“Martins,” I repeated, tasting the name. It rang a faint bell, but I couldn’t place it.
“She has a daughter,” he continued, pulling out his phone. “Around your age twenty. I thought you should see her before the wedding. You’ll be family soon, after all.”
He turned the screen toward me.
The first photo was of an elegant woman in her forties Elena, I assumed standing next to a younger bigger girl. My eyes locked onto the daughter.
Dark hair, soft curves, full lips currently pressed into a polite smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. Even in the photo, she looked like she was trying to take up less space than she needed.
I sat up straighter.
No f*****g way.
I took the phone from his hand and zoomed in. There was no mistaking her, that was the same girl from camp. The fatso who walked in on me in the bathroom. The one who called me a disgusting fuckboy and glared at me like I was the devil for an entire week, the same girl who cockblocked me with her pretty little friend Zoe.
Aurora. A slow grin spread across my face.
“Interesting,” I murmured.
My father raised an eyebrow. “You know her?”
“You could say that.” I handed the phone back, still smiling. “We were at the same leadership camp a couple of months ago. She… made an impression.”
“Good or bad?”
I leaned back again, lacing my fingers behind my head. “Complicated I’d say she hated my guts. Called me every name in the book had this fire in her eyes every time she looked at me. Most girls melt when I talk to them but she looked like she wanted to set me on fire.”
Dominic chuckled. “Sounds like she has spirit.”
“Oh, she does.” I couldn’t stop the amusement curling in my chest. “And now she’s about to become my stepsister?”
“Yes. The wedding is in six weeks. After the wedding Elena and Aurora will move into the mansion and I’ve already arranged for Aurora to work here under you. You’ll train her.”
I let out a low whistle. “You’re putting her under me? In my office? Living under the same roof?” this just keeps getting more interesting.
“I expect you to treat her like family.”
“Family,” I repeated, tasting the word. A wicked little spark of curiosity lit up inside me this was going to be fun. The same girl who spent an entire week trying to ruin my good time was about to be trapped in my house and forced to see me every single day.
I could already imagine the look on her face when she found out.
“You’re not… upset?” my father asked, watching me carefully.
I laughed. “Upset? Dad, this is the most entertaining thing that’s happened all year. The universe has a sense of humor.” I stood up and walked to the window, looking out over the city. “She is going to lose her mind when she realizes.”
“Prescott…”
“Relax.” I turned back with a playful smirk. “I’ll be on my best behavior… mostly”
He gave me a warning look, but there was fondness in it. “I’m serious, no games. She’s going to be your stepsister.”
“Oh, I know.” My grin widened. “That’s what makes it interesting.”
After he left, I sat back down and pulled up the photo again on my own phone (I may have forwarded it to myself). Aurora’s face stared back at me. soft, stubborn, even from the photo completely unimpressed by me.
Most women threw themselves at me. She had looked at me like I was beneath her.
And now she was going to be living in my house.
I leaned back, already imagining all the ways I could get under her skin again. The arguments, the glares, the way her cheeks flushed when she was angry.
This wasn’t a problem.
This was entertainment.
I picked up my phone and texted Marcus.
**Prescott:** You’re not going to believe this shit.
**Marcus:** What now?
**Prescott:** Remember the curvy Farsi girl from camp who hated my guts?
**Marcus:** The one who cockblocked you with her friend?
**Prescott:** The very same, She’s about to become my stepsister.
There was a pause, then:
**Marcus:** No f**king way.
**Prescott:** Yep way, and Dad’s putting her under me at the company.
**Marcus:** This is going to be a disaster.
**Prescott:** Or the most fun I’ve had in a long time.
I set the phone down, still smiling.
Aurora Martins thought she was done with me.
She had no idea the real game was just beginning.
And I was very much looking forward to playing.
