We left the rec room and made our way to the fourth floor using the elevator and went to Jacobs' office.
"This floor is where the Alpha's conduct all of their business. My office is right next door to our apartment, so when you live here with me, you will always know where to find me." Jacob said to me.
All six of us entered his office, and I was surprised to find it neat and tidy. There was a solid oak desk with a black leather office chair behind it. There were books from floor to ceiling on black bookshelves along one wall. A huge map of Olympia was on the wall behind the desk and not much else. It didn't look like he'd spent much time here considering he would be the next Alpha.
Jacob sat in his office chair and I stood by his side. Beth and Nathan both took the chairs in front of Jacobs' desk and David stood behind Nathan while Matt stood behind Beth and placed his hands on her shoulders, rubbing them gently.
"OK, so first things first, will David be coming on this mission with us?" Jacob asked.
"Mission?" Said David.
"Yes, I want to find out what really happened to my family and why it happened. It will be really dangerous and no one outside this room can know any details. So, if you are with us, then we can fill you in on what we know so far. If not, then, I'm sorry, but you won't be able to come with us, and you won't be allowed to say anything to anyone about it." I replied.
"Where Nathan goes, I go." David said. Nathan brought his hand up, searching for David's hand which was resting on his shoulder, and gave it a squeeze and David bent down and kissed him on the forehead.
"You guys are so cute." Commented Beth, causing both Nathan and David to blush a lovely shade of pink.
I quickly filled David in on what had happened to my people, so that he was up to speed on everything.
"That makes so much sense," David said after a short silence.
"Huh?" I brilliantly replied.
"Well, not that it was any of my business, but, I could never quite work out why the Elders would just let you in without a proper reason. Being told that everyone had died in a horrible accident just didn't sit right. Why was there only one survivor? Why let you live? What makes you so special? I know that sounds like I'm trying to be rude, but I'm not. It just never made sense until now. What did you say was written on the note?" David said.
"It said 'I'm sorry for my people. All my love Adrian' with two kisses at the end. Why?" I replied.
"Who's Adrian to you?" He asked.
"No one really. He used to accompany his King on his visits with my father. I only ever saw him in passing. I was never allowed to the meetings as my mother used to say that Princesses have more important things to tend to and to leave matters such as these to men."
"Didn't you say the welcome meeting was with the Elves?" Asked Beth.
"Yes, my father and the Elf King were trying to broker a peace treaty. My father wanted us to trade peacefully with each other. His thinking was, if we could coexist peacefully at the college, which is neutral territory, then why not have trade agreements with each county?"
"Hmm..." David was chewing his lip thinking.
"What is it, my love?" Nathan asked him.
"Well, I'm thinking that maybe this Adrian guy has a thing for Roxy, and that's why he saved her." David pondered.
Hearing this, Jacob growled. I placed my hand on Jacobs' shoulder to comfort him. He took a deep breath and seemed to relax.
"Yes, but how would he have gotten the note to Roxy and be able to save her in the midst of such a brutal slaughter?" Nathan asked.
"Unless he wrote the note before it was going to happen." Piped up Matt.
We all looked at him. He'd been quiet this whole time. I thought he'd zoned out or something.
"Well, isn't it obvious? He must have orchestrated something with his King and wrote the note before the welcome meeting. It sounds to me like he wouldn't have been able to have you any other way. So he wrote the note, everything kicked off and then he 'saves' you, so that he can come back for you later. Although what bothers me the most is why everyone looked like they were elf zombies. Something else had to have been in play," Matt explained.
"Oh my goddess, why didn't I think of that before." I could quite literally facepalm myself right now. How could I have been so stupid? "I think it's time we paid a visit to the King of elves himself, so we can hear it from the horses mouth."
"But don't we need to speak to the Elders and ask their permission to cross the border?" inquired Beth.
"No we don't. You just need an alpha's permission and, I'm almost the alpha, so I can grant the permission easily." Jacob said proudly. I smiled my thanks at him and kissed him on the cheek.
"OK, so we need to go to the creeping wood and seek them out. None of us knows how long we will be gone for, so how about we each pack a bag and meet outside the pack house in about two hours? The quicker we get started on this mission, the better I think," Jacob proposed.
Nathan, Beth and I gasped when Jacob said only one bag. How would I fit everything in one bag? Nathan and Beth both had similar looks on their faces.
As we started to leave Jacobs' office, I started to feel a little strange. I wasn't touching Jacob and yet my skin was feeling tingly. Jacob pulled me aside.
"Are you alright?" he asked me with concern written all over his handsome face.
"Yes I'm fine, I just feel a little strange." I answered him.
"Well it is a full moon tonight, maybe that's why."
As we made our way to the front door, I suddenly got a sharp pain in my chest. I staggered out of the door and fell to the floor with a cry. Jacob was trying to console me, but I couldn't concentrate on anything he was saying. All I could feel was pain. I screwed my eyes shut to try and breathe through the pain. After a few minutes, the pain started to ease. As I opened my eyes, I noticed everyone was staring at me. I was about to ask them what they were staring at when my skin started feeling incredibly warm, like I was standing next to a furnace. I looked down at my hands and gasped in shock when I noticed that I was glowing. This only happens to royal fairies when they get their full powers.
Now I know a lot of people think that fairies are those little beings that have wings and cute little outfits like Tinkerbell but those beings are pixies. We fairies might not get wings, but we do get our powers when we find our mate and get marked by them. The glow finally ebbed away, and I have to say, I felt powerful. I could feel my powers coursing through my veins.
"There's no need to look so shocked, I'm just coming into the rest of my powers. It's like coming of age," I explained.
"Aww, my baby sister is all grown up." Beth said laughingly.
"b***h, I love you too." I retorted.
"I heard about that happening, but I never thought I would witness it." David was looking at me like I was a science project gone wrong.
I flicked my fingers at him and water was conjured up out of nowhere and squirted him right in the face like it was shot from a water pistol. And honestly, I would've fallen on the floor laughing if I hadn't already been crouched down.
So, I have fire, lightning and water power. It's an odd mixture of elements to have, but that's nothing new.
We said goodbyes to each other and went our separate ways. Beth and I linked arms again and walked home. This could be the last time we do this walk together. We have no idea what we're walking into or what will happen, but as long as I have my friends and my mate by my side, I'm sure the truth will make itself known, and we can fight what ever comes our way together.
