~Caius~ I'd been in this library for two hours, supposedly researching Carson's background, but really just watching her study by the window. She turned that bronze badge over and over in her hands, eyebrows scrunched in concentration as she read through another dusty book. The Carson research had been easy enough. Three years ago, he helped a family escape from our pack. The family had been threatened after the father spoke out against some of Dad's dreadful rules, and Carson smuggled them out in the middle of the night. So Carson was one of the good guys. Which made me like him even less. I closed my laptop and stood, my heart suddenly speeding up by the mere sight of her.
