Danielle Point Of View.
I was startled out of my deep sleep by my phone beeping.
I looked at my wall clock to make sure it was 6:30 p.m.
"Oh my! How could I have slept for so long?? As I threw off the bed, I pondered.
After failing to sell my artwork to drivers, I returned home shortly after, already sound asleep as if my wine had been tainted with drugs.
The fact that sleeping in the studio apartment was inconvenient for me did not even bother me.
I was used to the hardship, so even though my back hurt, I did not feel like it.
I checked my mailbox and picked up my phone in the hopes of receiving a mouth-watering message from a potential client, but I did not receive any.
"What on earth is going on with my life?? I moaned in frustration and almost slammed my phone into the wall.
I was struggling to adapt to life on Earth. Art was not working for me.
At that point, I just wanted to give it up and concentrate on other things.
I slowly closed my eyes to go to sleep when my phone started beeping once more.
This time, my best friend Naomi, who works at an art gallery, texted me instead of my alarm.
The text message I got from her said, "Call me when this pops on your phone."
The situation described in the text seems urgent.
I suffered from migraines and lost some brain cells while I was racking my brain.
For the day, I did not feel like talking to anyone. I decided to make a call, because of the tone of the text I got from Naomi.
?Hopefully, this will be worthwhile.?
I reached out to her.
I would rather not waste my time discussing frivolities with her when I should be fast asleep.
She picked up the phone seconds after calling and said, "Hey, bestie."
That was unexpected.
Dark magic is what I would have accused her of if she were not my best friend.
"Your texts reached me.
What is up with it?? I pretended to speak softly so she would think I was asleep. .
?Before my text message appeared, were you asleep?? As soon as Naomi heard how calm my tone was, she asked.
?Indeed, I was asleep.
What would you like to discuss with me?? I was dishonest.
A few miles away from my ear, I picked up the phone and chuckled that my plan was working.
?Sorry about that. The art gallery is hosting an exhibition tonight, and I wanted to inform you about it.
I simply thought it might be of interest to you. We should put it out of our minds since you are asleep," Naomi disclosed.
My nostrils opened wide in anticipation when the Art Exhibition was mentioned.
I became more thick-spoken than ever. It roused every bone in my body. ?Art Show? I have already arrived there. At what time do they begin??
"Wait a second, I assumed you were asleep? What happened to your voice? It became increasingly dense. Are you just pulling my legs, or were you asleep?? She enquired in the most perplexed way.
Even though I was not beside her, I could picture the worry taking up a significant portion of her face.
"Forget what I said, and just answer the f*****g question. What time do they begin?? My tone was one of appeasement.
When do they begin? The red carpet has already begun. Already, the wealthiest and most powerful individuals are swarming in. It is something you do not want to miss," She continued.
"I will arrive there shortly."
I hung up the phone before She could say anything more.
I obtained the necessary information.
I was experiencing a panic attack already. I eagerly anticipated seeing what she had in store for me.
I rushed to my artwork, which I could not sell, because I was moving too quickly and got caught up in traffic.
After wandering the streets of Florida in the sweltering heat while I looked for a new home for them, they smell badly.
I wiped the dust from the paintings with one of my old clothes so the rich visitors to the Art Exhibition would find them more appealing. I do not want my artwork to have a rotten fish odour.
"This is the moment."
After successfully removing the dust, I let out a sigh.
I was contemplating my next move while standing in front of my artwork when Naomi called once more.
"What is the estimated time of arrival for you? I will always be upset with you if you lose this significant chance.? On the phone, she screamed at me like I was her kid.
"Babe, a little while.
I only got twenty bucks on me. How am I going to return home?? I complained.
"Come over, I will take care of it," she told me.
?Have you considered the amount of money this exhibit will bring in? I will take care of it, come over," she told me before hanging up.
It was more than a phone call. Naomi was more like reviving my lifeless spirit.
I threw on a red gown and took a quick bath without hesitation. It was considered my finest ensemble to date.
I chose my best pieces of art with care. I went outside and caught a cab to the exhibition's location, New Religion Galleria.
Inside, I had a breakdown.
Based on the dignitaries in attendance, I instantly gave up on ever selling a piece.
Getting over my fears, I walked a few paces towards the door entrance.
A man with broad shoulders and a hefty appearance appears in front of me as I look over my shoulder.
?What happened to your invitation card? You're not allowed to come inside without the invitation card.? He demanded. He stretches his hand to retrieve the card because he thought I had it.
I could see my dreams disappearing right before my eyes. I wasn't ready to leave without a fight.
