Chapter 1

The rain poured down heavily from the sky as I ran through the empty street. My steps were loud, splashing against the flooded ground, my legs were burning as I pushed myself faster. A flash of light chased me behind. I ran harder.

When my chest began to ache, I stopped and bent forward, struggling to catch my breath. I looked back at the direction I came from. Nothing.

I let out a shaky sigh of relief and leaned against the cold, wet wall next to me. I was relieved to think that I had lost them. But, a second later I heard a bark.

My body stiffened. And leaned more against the wall, trying to hide my presence. Another bark followed — closer this time.

I pushed myself away from the wall and ran again, my heart beating violently in my chest. The sound of paws hitting the ground echoed behind me, growing nearer with each second. In the distance, I was repeatedly looking back to make sure that they were not close.

While the rain was still pouring heavily, and I was almost exhausted from running for nearly a mile, I didn't see any place to hide. In the distance, I spotted a black car parked under a dim streetlight.

There was nowhere to hide. The dog will find me for sure. I ran straight in the direction of the car—and only then did I notice a shadow inside the car, a sign of someone inside.

The bark sounded again, loud and sharp. More clearly.

Without hesitation, I yanked open the door and slipped inside. Even though my whole body was so wet, I didn't think about it because I had no other choice but to do it.

There was a man in the backseat. Our eyes met. I was soaked, breathing hard, my clothes sticking to my skin. He just looked as shocked as I felt. Another flash of light appeared in the distance.

“Fuck.” I mumbled when I saw the light in the front of the car.

I instinctively ducked down, hiding myself as much as I could. The man stared at me, still trying to process what happened. The flashing lights drew closer, but I was praying that they wouldn't catch me. I was leaning, hiding from their view.

When footsteps stopped next to the car, With no choice in that situation. I grab the man's collar and pull myself towards him. The sound of rain pounding on the roof filled the silence. I closed my eyes when I heard the car door open—I felt his lips into mine while my eyes were closed. I expected to get caught.

“I’m so—sorry, sir.” But, the next second, I heard the door closed. With man's voice rattled.

When I opened my eyes again, our eyes met. His appearance was sharp and hollow.

I immediately pulled back, refusing to think about the kiss. When I looked outside, the guards were already walking away, heading in another direction.

Relief washed over me — but only for a second. I was still inside the car. This time I looked at the man properly. He was elegant, composed, and dangerous in a way that I couldn't explain. I need to leave now, before the police come back. I was thinking about escaping that situation I'm in. But, when I reached for the door handle, I pulled. It was locked.

“Who are you?” The man spoke finally, breaking the silence.

He shifted a little, leaning against the door. Only then I realize—I had pushed him there earlier.

"Sorry about the scene I caused," I said, forcing a calm smile while trying to figure out how to unlock the door.

“What scene?” he replied casually. “Kissing me?” He said with a sarcastic tone. What's wrong with this guy? I had no other option. I needed to get out as quickly as possible. I moved closer and kissed him again.

This time, he reacted. It was what I expected him to do.

His hand tightly wrapped around my waist, pulling me in. I froze for a half a second, caught off guard by the sudden strength in his grip. Before I could think, his kiss changed — rougher, deeper. My thoughts were scattered as he responded with a force I did not expect. I was on top of him. I can feel the change in his private parts. The cold in the surrounding area became warm as the kissing was underway. I can feel the warmth inside my body.

I pressed him against the car door. In spite of the rain outside, the space between us felt unbearably warm. I kissed him one more time—harder this time, intentional. While kissing him, and his hand was in my waist, I slowly reached for the button on his back and pressed it.

When I heard the door finally unlocked, I opened the door where he was leaning and that made him fall out of the car. The man smirked, as if he finally understood what kind of situation he was dragged into.

"That's enough to thank you," I positioned myself as I said that and stepped out of the car.

But just as I turned away—

“Let's meet again,” he said, a twisted smile on his face. I raised his wallet in reply before walking off. I could see the surprise on his face when I pulled it out.

I finally reached our base. Still covered from the rain. Once inside, I handed over the jewelry that I had stolen for the auction. It was worth millions.

"Looks like something unexpected happened, Miss Raven," commented the woman at the mission desk.

I simply smiled. “Nothing serious.” I said confidently. I turned to leave.

“I think you forgot something,” she called out. I glanced back and saw the wallet—the one I had taken earlier. I almost forgot that.

Later, after changing clothes, I sat down on the bed and opened it. A thick stack of cash greeted me, together with a black card. A soft smile appeared on my face.

“That guy was worth my time,” I muttered.

I bought the card in the wallet that is also branded. I slid the card into the customized machine that I built for jobs like this. As expected, it does not freeze. After entering a few codes, the system unlocks.

My lips curved in a smile when I saw the balance. It was 3 months' worth of expenses were covered. With one click, the money was transferred into my private account. When I finally finished it. I went back to the wallet on the table. I looked deeper inside the wallet and found a business card.

“He’s a CEO,” I said quietly, surprised by the discovery. I did not look at it closely and just threw the wallet in the trash can along with the black card.

The rain stopped as I was already inside the house... When I got inside, I saw my family was already eating at the dining table. They noticed my presence. I put a smile on my face.

"Did you complete your mission?" I stopped when my dad asked me. I did not open my mouth and answered him using the head gesture.

"I heard the police are chasing you. Is that an accomplished mission for you?" My smile changed a bit. He already knew it.

"I don't need any embarrassment in this family," he just said coldly. And continued eating. While my mother and siblings were mumbling. I hug myself and walk into my room. I spent two hours in my room. I just didn't want to hear anything from my mother. She always said harsh things when I joined them. So, it's a good decision for me to eat after they are done eating.

When I feel that the downstairs is quiet, I get down. I took myself to the kitchen and looked for food there. I opened the lights in the kitchen and looked for food to cook or leftover food. I brought out the leftover food, the same food that they had eaten earlier. I'll just heat it up. I nearly let go of the leftovers that I was holding when a voice spoke at the back of me.

“Mistress Raven?” I have an old tone of voice.

“You scared me, Ms. Lucia,” I said, holding my chest. She simply smiled at my reaction.

“You really are still afraid of the dark, aren't you?” I just smiled at her awkwardly. That's why I turned on the lights, because I was really afraid of the dark.

"You want me to cook for you?" She asked while opening the rest of the lights in the house.

"No, I'll just eat this leftover food," I said. Her expression changed. Like, she wasn't happy with what she just heard about me.

"Then, you should go to the dining table, I'll heat it up for you." And get the leftover food in my hand. I sat down at the dining table while smiling when she served me food.

When the leftovers were heated, she served them to me. And just sat in front of me and watched me eat. At that moment, I didn't feel alone at that long table.
