CHAPTER 3

BETTY'S POV I thought we were here to meet Chris Bridge's PA, but not in my wildest thought did I think that I would be meeting Chris Bridge. Chris Bridge is the second son of William Bridge, the conglomerate owner of 'The Bridges' company. The best company in the country. They have a lot of business under them. They are involved in electronics, food, airlines, and hospitals. To patronize them means you are part of the richest people in the country. They are always constantly trying to launch one new product or the other and I had thought they probably wanted to go into publishing books and helping a struggling writer like me to publish her book would probably give them a lot of advertisement but meeting Chris Bridge wasn't part of what I had imagined. Olivia will definitely freak out. Chris Bridge is that fine rich man that everyone has a crush on. He is always constantly in the news and magazines. I have seen a magazine where he was labelled as the hottest man alive. He has a reputation for being both charming and elusive, which only adds to his allure. When the door to the meeting room swung open, revealing Chris Bridge himself, my heart skipped a beat. He exuded an air of confidence and sophistication as he sat down. I remember when I went for a hangout with Olivia she had screamed when he appeared on the screen that I had come running from the kitchen to check if she was injured. "Look at Chris" she had said looking at the TV screen. I was dumbfounded. " He doesn't belong in our world. You better answer the guy's number that has been calling you non-stop since yesterday" His piercing gaze met mine with a hint of curiosity. I took my eyes as I sat down next to Sam where his PA had pointed for us to sit. I was sitting down across Chris and I felt that he was staring at my soul. I looked at the meeting room as it was an elegant room. This was different from the rooms that I had met with publishers and editors but then this is the first time I will be having a meeting in a hotel. The room looked like something out of a magazine, with its sleek modern furniture, floor-to-ceiling windows offering a breathtaking view of the city skyline, and tasteful art adorning the walls. Everything about it exuded luxury and sophistication. "Miss Craig, I presume?" his PA said with a charming smile, extending his hand towards me. I shook his hand as he sat down beside me. Chris Bridge was the only one sitting across the other end of the table. I could still feel Chris Bridge's gaze across from where I was sitting and nervously tapped my foot. Sam could sense my nervousness as he placed his hand on my knee. I looked at him and smiled. " Sam Finn, I'm sorry but I would love to speak with Miss Craig alone" Chris Bridge uttered. His voice carries a deep, husky quality that commands attention. It sounds like there's a raw, gritty edge to his words, like the rough texture of sandpaper against smooth silk. I was surprised and so was Sam because we both looked at each other looking confused. We have never attended any meetings without each other before. Sam always helps me when I fail to answer a question but a meeting alone with Chris Bridge? I am so f****d. "Errmm..what Mr Bridge meant is that he would like to discuss with Miss Craig without you" his PA uttered nicely. Chris Bridge said it in a commanding tone while his PA uttered it in a friendly manner. "Exactly what I just said," Chris Bridge replied. "Not exactly the same but I'm sure they get it," his PA replied. " I'm sorry but my manager has to be here with me" I replied amidst the confusion. "You are not a baby, are you?? Chris asked with a commanding voice again. I was ready to throw hands. I stood up to complain and Sam dragged me back to sit, then whispered to my ear. "We can't mess up whatever opportunity this may be" He smiled at me and walked out of the room. "You could have said it nicely," his PA told him after Sam had left the room "I was as nice as I could be" he replied him "Yeah…nice" I sneered. Chris Bridge looked at me, this time intently like he was looking at my soul. I stared at him back without shifting my gaze from him. He had no intention of backing out either. His PA voice broke the staring contest between us. "My name is Louis, Mr. Chris's assistant. Nice to meet you" he smiled at me "Nice to meet you too" I replied, while smiling back at him. Louis's voice seemed to put me at ease. He looked friendly. Louis seemed nice. He is a handsome man himself and I reckon that he might have a hard time working for Chris as he seemed not to be friendly, unlike Louis. The only similarity between Louis and Chris is that they both looked Asian. They are different in their personalities. Louis gestured towards Chris, who was still sitting across from me with that intense gaze fixed upon me. "Mr. Bridge would like to discuss something with you, which he would love to be confidential, Miss Craig," Louis explained. I nodded. Chris Bridge leaned back in his chair, his gaze still fixated on me. "Marry Me" Chris uttered. I looked at him looking absolutely shocked. The words caught me completely off guard. I had come here for a publishing contract but this man here is saying something unrelated. I looked up at Louis in my confusion. "You don't just bring it up like that Chris" Louis said looking at him. "How am I supposed to tell her to marry me without saying she should marry me" he argued "You completely stunned her with how you asked". Louis replied to him. They kept bickering to each other while I just sat there completely confused as to what was going on. "Wait..what is going on here" I questioned. They both stopped and were looking at me. "Am I in the right place? I questioned again, looking at the room to be sure. "Yes, you are" Louis assured me "What Mr Chris meant was that ... erm.." he paused and passed me the document in front of him. "You can go through this for better understanding" I curiously flipped through the document and I was dumbfounded by what I had just read "Marry me," Chris said again "Marry you?" I repeated I sat there, completely stunned by his confession. Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that Chris Bridge, the hottest and richest billionaire, would be asking for my hand in marriage. "This is ridiculous," I uttered
