Aftermath

1205 Words
It took weeks to get back to a somewhat normal routine in our lives. Along with it being hard to shake the feeling that the ghost of Alexander Hughes was still possessing Jack even though Father Mike kept assuring me he wasn’t. I keep trying to figure out everything I can about Alexander Hughes’s life hoping that it would help me to understand exactly why he chose my husband to possess. I decided to start at the beginning when we were in Grand Mountain, Montana where the haunting had started. I knew that Alexander was a miner whose wife had died in England the year before. I remember being told that I supposedly looked like Alexander’s late wife, but they couldn’t be sure. His daughter Mary is the only one that I could find a picture of in the entire Hughes family. After a month of trying to find a reason for everything, I finally gave up on the why part of the haunting and decided to get on with my new life with Jack. I am thankful he is back to his old self horns and all. It wasn't long until little things started happening around the house again. It seemed that we had gotten Andrew out of Jack, but we haven't stopped him from haunting me. Once again, I call up the paranormal team for their help. "Hi, Cady this is Emily I'm needing your help once again. It seems that we haven't gotten rid of Andrew he is still haunting me," I explained, trying to control my emotions that were all over the place. "You're saying that he is still inside of your husband," She asked. "No, he is out of him, but I think that he is still inside my house," "Okay, just stay calm I'll get the team together and head your way," "Thank you so much please hurry," "We will be there as fast as we can, Just as we hang up my cell phone gets flown from my hands all I could say was "What the hell," then came a deep dark laugh. That's when I knew that it wasn't Andrew Hughs's ghost it was something else. Possibly the dark spirit that was in the house with us in Montana that Andrew was protecting us from. Could he have been protecting us here and since we got rid of him it left us unprotected? I wouldn't find out until Cady and the other investigators show up and do their experiments. Until then I needed to protect myself and my husband. The team wouldn't show up until the next evening. I finally felt safe when I saw that they had brought Father Mike with them. "Thank you so much for coming," I said as I opened the door to let them in. "Of course," Father Mike replied, " How are you and your husband doing,"  "We are doing fine except for this new ghost," I smiled. "New ghost?" Cady questioned. "I thought that you said it was Andrew Hughs," "I thought so until I had gotten off the phone with you yesterday and it was thrown from my hands then I heard a deep scary laugh," I explained.  "Well, what are we waiting for let's see if we can't figure out what is haunting you," Cady advised as she walked around the house. Steve once again turned on his recorder and began asking questions to see if he could get an answer. When he asked his first question " Who is in this house," came a dark voice that we all heard without the recorder. "Me," "Who's me," Steve asked. Then the same deep dark laugh that I had heard the day before seemed to shake the whole house. "They know me," The voice laughed. Steve continued asking more questions, but the dark voice didn't answer any more questions it just left with one final warning. "My back, it's burning," Jack screamed. Father Mike rushed over to him and lifted the back of his shirt there were three scratch marks down his back. "What on earth," I screamed. "It seems that you have a demonic spirit here, the three scratch marks are a joke on the holy trinity, the father, the son, and the holy spirit," Father Mike advised us. "Sometimes dark spirits knock on the walls three times everything comes in threes," "I've been hearing knocks and scratches since we had the exorcism done," Jack admitted. "You have? Why didn't you tell me," I questioned him trying not to sound angry? "I'm sorry I didn't want to frighten you," He confided. Cady looked over at me "Have you heard anything before yesterday Emily," "No, I haven't noticed anything strange before yesterday," I admitted. Just then a big gust of wind blows through the living room. "I just turned off the air conditioner," I said, getting up, making sure it was turned off and the windows are shut so there shouldn't be any air blowing through here," "It's the evil spirit he is making his presence known," Cady confided. "Steve why don't you see if you can't get it to tell you why it's here," Steve pulled out a round device he called a "puck device" and started asking questions again. "Why are you here," "What do you want,"  Finally, the evil spirit spoke "Emily," it said. Steve asked "What do you want with Emily," No reply the evil spirit never answered any more questions the rest of the night. "What did the spirit mean when before when it said that you knew it," Steve inquired. I looked over at Jack who looked like he was still in pain. "We believe that it might be the evil spirit that Andrew Hughs was protecting us from while we lived in Montana," I told them. "You two head off to the hotel with Father Mike and we will see what happens tonight while we investigate," Cady orders as she finishes patching up Jack's back. I go pack some clothes and other things for Jack and me for our hotel stay. I was curious why Father Mike was going with us. "Can I ask why Father Mike needs to go with us to the hotel," I questioned as I walked back to the living room? "Not that I'm complaining, I do feel safer when you are around," "We just want to make sure that you are protected, unlike the last time when Andrew's ghost followed you," Father Mike explained in his calming voice. We put our bags in the car and headed off to the hotel with Father Mike following us in his car. Father Mike ended up getting a room that connected to ours in case anything happened and he could get over to us fast. That night I had gotten the best sleep I've had in a really long time. Obviously, the evil spirit couldn't follow us like the spirit of Andrew Hughs's could when we left the house. Was it because he was attached to me and this evil spirit isn't? I couldn't wait to get back home and find out what Cady and Steve found during their investigation last night.
