Lexi was getting a drink of water from the water bottle that she had brought from the house when she heard Isaiah’s phone go off. She looked down and saw the message that Casey had sent from Shane’s phone.
“Dad! Come quick. You have a message,” Lexi called to her father who was just swimming back to the shore.
“What is it, Lexi? Just read it for me,” Isaiah said as he waded out of the water. He turned to head back toward the jumping tree.
“Dad, you need to answer this one. It’s urgent,” Lexi said hurriedly.
Isaiah turned and walked over to where Lexi was standing next to the picnic table that had the towels on it. He took his phone from Lexi after he had dried his hands on his towel. His head snapped up after reading the message.
“Lane, we need to head back up to the house. Now,” Isaiah said as calmly as he could. Lane nodded and swam towards the shore.
“Is everything okay?” asked Sebastian as he waded up on to the shore just ahead of Lane.
“I am not sure yet. But you need to come, too,” Isaiah said, as he headed back up the path towards the house.
“What’s going on?” Lane asked quietly when he had caught up with his father. In answer, Isaiah handed him his phone so that he could read the message.
The message read:
This is Casey. Sebastian’s Beta is trying to get Shane to fight him. Shane has shifted. We need some help before this escalates anymore. I feel like it is about to get bad.
“Are you kidding me?” Lane asked.
“I am not sure, but if this is true then it will be the last shift moon that this pack will ever attend with this pack. I am tired of every time they come, there is always something going on. He has been trying to take over this pack for the last four years. I am done with this. The shift moon ceremony is supposed to bring us together to celebrate the new wolves,” Isaiah said sadly.
“What are we going to do if this message is true?” Lane asked, trying to make sure he was prepared for what was possibly about to happen.
“I am going to have to go full Alpha and kick them out. I will not tolerate this behavior,” Isaiah said.
“Are you going to tell me what is going on? What are you two whispering about up there?” Sebastian asked, aggravatedly. “I was really enjoying the cool water on such a warm day.”
“Well, we are about to find out,” Isaiah said as they came through the trees that lined the back of the pack house. Shouting could be heard coming from the inside of the house, followed by howling.
“That’s Shane, dad. I would recognize his howl anywhere,” Lexi said, running towards the house. Casey ran out to meet them, tears in her eyes.
“They are hurting him and they won’t stop,” She sobbed as Lexi wrapped her arms around her.
“Who is hurting him?” asked Isaiah, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder.
“Christian and the others that came with him,” she said pointing at Sebastian. “They were in my room when we came back from the lake. Shane asked them to leave and they started arguing. The next thing I knew Shane had shifted and they started attacking him. He has injured three of them but Christian hit him in the head with one of the books out of my backpack and Shane hasn’t been able to stand since. And they won’t stop kicking and hitting him,” Casey sobbed again.
Isaiah and Lane took off for the house as another howl broke the silence around them.
“Why were they in your room?” Lexi asked, as Sebastian stepped up behind her.
“Christian said that they were told to wait in my room until tonight,” Casey said as she wiped her eyes.
“Who would tell them to wait in your room?” Lexi asked.
“I am afraid that would have been me. I did not realize that that was your room, Casey. I am sorry to cause all this trouble,” Sebastian said, with absolutely no remorse in is voice.
“I think you did know,” Casey shot back angrily.
“I beg your pardon,” Sebastian said, taken back at being spoke to like that.
“You also told them to go through my stuff. Christian was reading my journal and my room has been completely gone thru,” Casey said, almost yelling at him.
“I never told him to do that,” Sebastian said, fake shock in his voice.
“Christian told me that you did. That you wanted him to find out who I really was because you think you know me from somewhere. If you think you know me from somewhere, talk to me, get to know me. But I have never seen you a day in my life and now my best friend is hurt because you have to try to control everything,” Casey said accusingly
“I am an Alpha, that’s what we do,” Sebastian said.
“Then you must be a horrible Alpha, because Mr. Isaiah has never been like this. If he has questions he asks them. He doesn’t invade someone’s privacy without their permission. I feel for your pack if this is how you treat them,” Casey said as she turned her back on him and headed back towards the house. Sebastian grabbed her and spun her around.
“How dare…” Sebastian started. But he was interrupted by Isaiah as he exited the house, pushing Christian and the new wolves in front of him.
“Sebastian!” He yelled. “Get your hands off of her and get these heathens of yours and leave. Now!”
“You can’t tell me to leave old man. My pack has just as much right to attend the shift moon ceremony as yours does,” Sebastian said as he released Casey’s arm.
“Not this time. I have told you several times in the past that I will not tolerate any of this behavior. In years prior you have targeted the new, younger wolves but this time you have targeted my own son. I am done with this behavior from you and the members of your pack. Leave now and do not return. That is an order,” He said as he gave Christian one final shove down the stairs. The new wolves quickly followed before they got shoved, cowering from Isaiah’s authority. Even Casey found herself cowering ever so slightly.
“You cannot kick me out on the day of the shift moon ceremony!” Sebastian yelled as helped Christian back to his feet.
Isaiah walked quickly down the stairs and got into Sebastian’s face, “I just did. You do not want to challenge me on my own turf, Sebastian. It will end very badly for you.”
Just then, Shane, in his human form, stumbled out of the house on to the porch. Casey ran to him as Lane caught him before he fell.
“Shane!” Casey yelled on her way to him.
His head leaned against her chest as he collapsed into her arms. “I..will…be…okay,” he gasped out. “It’s just…my head…hit me pretty…hard.”
Casey pulled the hand that was behind his head away because it felt wet. Her hand was covered in blood. Lane saw this and began growling, “Dad, he is bleeding pretty badly. Head wound. We need to get him to Doc to get him checked out, Dad,” he said as he bent down to scoop up his brother into his arms.
Without a second glance at Sebastian, Isaiah headed back up the steps to the porch. As he did, he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He dialed a number faster than Casey had ever seen before. “Doc, we need you at the pack house as soon as possible. It’s Shane,” He said. Then he quickly hung up and put his phone back in his pocket. “Get him upstairs to his room, Doc will be here in five minutes. Careful with his head, he could have a concussion,” he told Lane. Then he turned his attention to Casey, “Go with them. Keep an eye on Shane for me. Lane will come back down after he puts him on his bed. Please keep your phone on you so that you can let me know if anything changes.”
Casey nods and follows Lane back into the house. Isaiah turns to face Sebastian again.
“Leave now, Sebastian. And never come back here again,” Isaiah ordered the other Alpha. “I banish you and your pack from ever attending the shift moon ceremony ever again.”
“You will regret this, Isaiah. I will make sure of it,” Sebastian growled.
“I will be ready,” was all Isaiah said as he turned his back and headed into the house with Lexi right behind him.
