Maddox pov
Being the alpha king. I can mind-link anyone. Normally, wolves can only mind-link within their pack and my range is more extensive than the other wolves. Leaves and dirt crunched under my paws and I ran off following a scent. The second I heard the pups scream through the mind link, I took off, not caring, I shredded a five thousand dollar suit in the process, the scent of the little pup mixed with blood and I felt Drax push harder, panicking thinking it was our mates.
The pup was on the ground. His knees scrapped up as I jumped over him and the giant tree root and tripped him. Drax's paws dug into the ground following the scent of our mate to the lavender field. Silver and blood stung the air. "Mates hurt, " he growled, scented, and took off toward the blood-scent trail. As we got closet blood from another wolf that hit our nose and the scent of rouge Drax barreled through the forest, I could barely register the trees blurring by. The scent of blood was more potent as we were getting closer to her.
The sight sent Drax into a killing frenzy. I even blacked out most of it, but flesh was shredded and blood soaked into the dry earth when we came to our scenes. Drax slowly walked over to Leo, her blindfold was on the ground soaking in the blood and we saw her white eyes. It was as if she could see us, looking at us in the eyes. The way they gazed into our eyes. Drax slowly walked over to her and sniffed her chest. She was losing a lot of blood, and the smell of silver was strongest on her palm. “She used her blood to draw the rough away from the pup”. Drax assessed the situation.
We didn't even think about it, Drax got to licking her wounds immediately. Every wolf can heal by licking the wound, but it's considered to be intimate, only kept to your pups and mate. A deep throaty moan came from her pale lips. Once the one on her chest healed, Drax went to her calf and another deep throaty moan escaped her lips. I could feel Drax getting turned on by his mate's moans. I was too, but he was more noticeable.
I shifted back into my human form and pulled out a pair of shorts and an oversized T-shirt from a clothes tree. Being wolves, we shift all the time and, though we don't mind nudity, we keep clothes trees for those who do. Besides, I didn't want anyone to see what was mine. I slipped the shorts on to try to conceal my raging hard on-and carefully slipped the t-shirt over her head. My little mate was passed out, probably because of the pain, her palm still bled. Drax could have healed that too, but then we would have been affected by the silver and we'd be no good to our mate then.
Leo pov
The smell always hit me first, the sting of the disinfectant flooded my nose. The monitor over to my left made a constant annoying deep keeping in tune with my heart. I smelt him before I felt his presence, the smell of fresh rain on a mossy fallen log. Maddox was by my bedside and, with calm, steady breathing, he was asleep. The footsteps of dozens of people outside sounded like some sort of calming music. It was steady and constant and occasionally someone with heavy steps would walk past.
A set of steps that got my attention was in rhythm and were pacing outside my door. They were too heavy for a pup, so it wasn't Ryan and my father. As much as I know he wanted to be here, his scent was barely clinging to the air, so he was long gone. The pacing was private Parker, his cologne of leather and musk slowly crept under the door.
I don't know what my father said to him about getting so attached to me like this, but it's weird. I'm not his second chance mate. Maddox was stirred awake by my coughing “How are you feeling little one?” his large rough hands were on my face, his thumbs caressed my cheek and the door opened with a bang and Misty's scent flooded the room. She smelt like a rouge coated in cheap perfume, disgusting but somehow fitting for her. “Your tests are back, and the silver traces in your blood are going down. You'll still have to take some medication and come back in a week for another test so I can make sure the silver is gone” Misty is always right to the point and then leaves. I wouldn't doubt it if she's sick of dealing with people because of how long she's been around.
“Little one?” Crescent purred at the nickname ‘Why does he keep calling us, who were only 10 years younger than him.’ I mumbled to Crescent ‘It's a term of endearment Leo, he's your mate, got used to it’. Crescent curled into a ball in the back of my mind and Maddox helped me out of bed. Sabrina, my best friend, just happened to be back in the pack visiting her parents and helped me change before Maddox took me to his room. She tried to get him to leave the room and I was convinced they would draw claws ‘My vote is for Sub, she's protective of you’. Crescent laughed. Eventually, he agreed to turn around while she helped me change. My body was still sore from Drax healing me.
While Maddox was carrying Leo to his quest room in the pack house, the patrol investigated where the rogues got in. The pups were playing and the others were training or taking care of their mates and pups. Deep in the forest where Leo was dying on the ground, where her blood soaked into the dry sandy earth, the black sprout of the blood flower poked out of the earth.
