Ryan smelt like candy, the kind that looked like it would make your teeth hurt just by looking at it. The pup knelt in front of me and my hands were filled with the tiny sweets wrapped in their colorful plastic, which would explain the smell "you shouldn't be here. We're too close to the border." I probably shouldn't be here either, but this was the only place I had of my mother so I came often "he's upset, I saw him crying" The silk blindfold shifted when I furrowed my brows "Who?" no one would be crying if I left "the Alpha king" I felt the pup take a piece candy from my hand and the small crinkling of the plastic wrapper along with the swaying noise of the lavender filled the silence.
I was just about to ask why, when the smell of rotting, stinky wolf hit my nose. Rouge Crescent growled. I was 5 miles away from any partol and the mind link wouldn't work at this distance. I quickly stood and pushed Ryan behind me, the small candies falling to the ground and getting crushed underfoot and I slowly inched the pup back to the tree line. Usually, rouges aren't stupid to come into our territory rough, but a blindfolded she-wolf with no wolf form and a pup was an easy target for whatever they wanted to do. The pup clung to my leg, his tiny hands shaking as they gripped my skirt.
“I need you to run straight back to the pack house. Don't follow the trail, yell through the mind link, someone will hear you” I felt his tiny hands grasp my skirt even tighter, the slight tug reminding me he was just a pup and not a warrior “Bu-but” I took a few more steps back, forcing the pup to walk backward “Ryan just do it!” I smelt the fear on him, the light of salty sweat that formed on the pup's temple “What about you” he’ll make a good beta alright, worried about me even when he's this small.
“They'll find me”. I reached to the back of my belt. I always carried a pure silver knife on me. For this reason, alone. “They'll find me, I'm going to lure them away so you can run, open the mind link and yell to anyone that will hear” I felt the pup nod against my leg “How will they find you? The silver blade burned as I sliced through my palm. Blood running between my fingers and tarnishing the pure lavender below, ‘I smell three’ Crescent paced back and forth. We'd trained for this but it was in a controlled environment and it was only if I was left alone.
I took off in the opposite direction of the pup and led the rouges away. I heard heading in the direction of the river that connected to the lake. There were always patrols there because of how easy it is to just swim right into the heart of our pack, the pack town wrapped around the lake, and the pack house sat behind it on a hill overlooking the town. My blood dripped and fell on the grass and moss below. Normally, a wound like that would have healed by now but the burn from the silver prevents my body from healing it. The exact reason why I carry it is so, if I'm attacked I can at least injure my attackers.
One wolf was hot on my trail but I knew this place like the back of my hand. I knew where I was going even though I was blind. It also helped that I had a crescent nose, and hearing that helped me even more. I climbed a tree on a branch that was high enough that the wolf wouldn't see me but close enough to the ground that I wouldn't be too injured when I jumped on its back. I let the first two wolves run ahead before I jumped down with Crescent's advice and I landed right on its back, the silver going into his spine, making him paralyzed instantly. ‘That was lucky’, Crescent commented, and she was right. I was only hoping for a large gash or a lung, but immobilizing it completely was a score
By the time I got up, the other two would have figured out they couldn't smell my blood. I was still 3 miles away from the nearest patrol. I froze and a hot stinky breath hit the back of my neck ‘There was a fourth one!’ I mentally yelled at Crescent. I turned and raised my knife and, from the smell of the copper in the air, I managed to at least nick the wolf. I backed up but tripped over the wolf I had taken down. I tried to crawl away but the paralyzed wolf bit down on my right leg, causing me to yell out.
I was pinned while the 4th Wolf stalked over. I felt something wet form on my side. For a moment I panicked, thinking I had hit myself with the silver blade, but the scent of fresh peach eased my worries. I had crushed the peach I picked for later when I fell. Whimpered again as the wolf bit down harder on me, the 4th rouge stalked up to me. I could feel the small vibrations from his paws on the ground under me.
I froze as I felt his snout in my neck breathing in my scent. He growled, “What a pretty maiden”. I felt a human hand on my face next, the wolf shifted into his human form. His hand was large and rough like Maddox’s was, but he wasn't caring or loving. He gripped my chin. “I can get a lot for a pure maiden” he growled, moving my head from side to side. “Let's see those eyes'' I sucked in a breath as I felt him take the blindfold off. I only took it off to shower. My hot sun hit my eyelids, my blood ran down my calf and soaked into the dirt and I had wondered for a moment if a blood flower would bloom. “Open your eyes” the man growled. I slowly opened my eyes. I've been told my eyes are glazed over and pure white.
He scoffed, probably disappointed that I couldn't see, the weight changed on me again and it felt like I was going to be crushed. A hot searing pain ripped through my chest as his claws sliced through my soft flesh. I didn't feel the other wolf let me go nor did I feel the wolf tare at my skirt, he wanted to make me suffer even more before I died, and I hoped Ryan got back to the pack and the two other rouges didn't get him. Her head faced the sky as the blood pooled along her collarbone and ran down the side of her neck to soak into the dry earth, and for a moment she swore she saw the blue sky.

I ran as fast as. I could, the. The smell of Miss Leo's blood still tingles my nose. I could hear their growls and howls from here. I yelled into the mind link hoping someone would hear. The roots of the large trees tripped me up, and I fell a few times, but I had to keep running. My knees scraped along the rocks on the ground and the scent of my blood hit the air. I was about to push myself up when a large black wolf jumped over me and was at full speed in the direction Miss Leo went in. A smaller wolf ran up to me. He was still big but slightly smaller than the alpha king. “Are you alright?” it was Beta Seth. I nodded as he looked at my knees. He was in his human form. Let's get you to the healer”. Beta Seth shifted back into his wolf form and laid down so I could ride on his back. My mama and papa always took me out for runs like this.
Beta Seth ran as fast as he could to the pack house and I had to lay on his back gripping his gray fur so hard I thought I might rip some out. A few other wolves, along with Misty, the light brown wolf. She was our best healer. She’s able to cure wolfsbane poisoning. I don't know how but she's really old and I heard mama and poops saying she's been around for 3 alpha king crownings. Mama thinks she's half-witch, but I don't think wolves and witches can't make pups. Wolves can only have pups with humans and other wolves.
I was brought to the hospital and one of the healers cleaned up my knees. While I told Beta Seth what happened, mama came in fussing over me and she said Papa was out looking for Leo with the rest of the group. “Oh! My boy, I'm so proud” Mama put her hands on my cheeks and squished them so I had a fish face. “So brave! And yelling for help, you even opened the mind link!'' she kissed me all over her face. I didn't get what the fuss was about. I wasn't brave. I ran and left Miss Leo behind to fight them herself.
