“You…” she squinted at me like my face was an unsolved problem, lips twisting as she searched for the insult she wanted, “you ruined my life.”
That was enough to make me turn fully toward her because that wasn’t drunk nonsense, that was accusation.
“What exactly do you mean by that?” I asked.
Her eyes fluttered, stubbornly staying open. “You…you take things,” she waved a lazy hand in my direction, “and walk away like nothing happened and …and you work with the bad guys.”
I scoffed quietly. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”
“Yes you do,” she insisted softly.
I waited for more.
Instead of responding, her head rolled and bumped lightly against the window with her words dissolving into something unintelligible as sleep started dragging her under.
