I'm stunned silent for a moment, not because I don't want to do either of those things. I'm quiet because I'm not sure if she really means those words. Willow isn't the sort to believe that I would just stay if I marry her. She doesn't believe that a piece of paper changes anything. It's clear by the way she didn't believe in the contract I signed to even get her to agree to be more than friends with me.
“Willow, is that really what you want?” I ask, needing to be certain.
She sighs, pulling her legs to her chest as she rests her chin over her knee. “I really do want to adopt Millie. I want to be a part of her life always! And of course I want you to be a part of it too. I don't believe that a stupid piece of paper will make us be together forever, but you do.”
