Esme's POV When I came down, Luna Noemi was already sitting at the table with Alpha Ysmael, the delicious Italian food Marta had cooked didn't help to lighten the mood, but they tried to keep me out of the way, still smiling at me. "Esme, come sit next to me." luna neomi greeted me as I walked over, this is usually Merverlan's place, will he come down? i can already feel his sharp stare piercing through me. i bet he's already thinking of new ways to punish me. "Esme..." Alpha Ysmael suddenly shouted, making me jump a little. I hesitantly looked into his eyes, carefully putting my utensils aside. I replied respectfully, "Yes." "I hope you can put the events of this morning behind you, and of course I hope more than anything that you don't let the Merverlan cloud your judgment of Gabe, he's a good boy. I'm sure he'll be good to you." I nodded quietly. "Yes. He's a nice man, I didn't have any trouble getting along with him," I replied. Suddenly there was the sound of a glass breaking in the kitchen! God, when did he come down? And his hand was bleeding! Did he break the glass because he heard me? Luna Neomi quickly ran over to me and I quickly got down from the table to get the medical kit from the living room and handed it to Luna. "Merverlan! What the hell are you doing? You're turning eighteen tomorrow night! You need to be ready for the pack at all times! I expect you to grow up!" The Alpha Ysmael accused him angrily. "Merverlan, you've been acting a bit strange lately, can you tell mommy why?" Luna Neomi looked at him worriedly. "Leave me alone, Mom." Merverlan gently pushed away her gauze, his expression now like a wounded lone wolf, completely devoid of his former confidence. I didn't dare to speak or look at him, I couldn't easily forgive him for what he had said to me, for what he had done to me. Luna Neomi pulled him back, not wanting to let him go alone, but Alpha Ysmael pulled Luna strongly to his side. "Leave him alone! I think he needs to figure out what he's doing on his own," Alpha Ysmael said, still angry. Merverlan laughed sarcastically, he didn't care. He walked up the stairs and suddenly stopped. "That's a very offensive joke for a werewolf council's son like Gabe. Why would any Alpha want to have an Omega as a pair? Let the Moon Goddess choose the unlucky guy for her," he insulted. I instantly bowed my head. His words cut deep inside of me like flying sharp knives. *** The next day, morning. I'm at the library, but my attention is not on books at all. Tonight is the feast, but I don't know how I should react yet. If I go, I will be severely punished. But if I don't go, I'll be a miscreant. At that moment, a voice calls to me softly. "Esme?" I lifted my head to follow the voice who called me. I saw a smiling Gabe leaning on my table. "Why are you here so early at the library? You're looking for something?" he asked. I didn't say anything and just went back to reading my book. I saw how his smile faded in the corners of his eyes. I thought he would leave after I gave him the cold shoulder, but he just went around to sit on the chair beside me, making me flinch a bit. He took out a notebook and pen like he was preparing to study with me. I looked at him confusedly. "You shouldn't be here. I told you already about the bullies. They will surely come after you once they find out you're making friends with me." My lips pursed when he suddenly turned his head to look at me. His blue eyes met mine. "What are they gonna do? Beat me? Put my head on a spike? I believe I'm strong enough to splat them like mosquitoes in my hand." He doesn't understand. "You..." I was about to recount to him the seriousness of the matter when he didn't give me the chance. He looks at me seriously, leans in close, and whispers in my ear, "I can take you away." *** Banquet Merverlan's POV "Can you please stop looking for Esme?!" I scolded my wolf Ross. He's been sniffing nonstop to find her in the crowded room. I'm at the platform together with the other important guests. What's making me lose my cool more is when I saw the motherfucker enter the room. Father must be really testing my patience. He knew I'd flip my lid once I saw the man flirting with Esme. This is what I don't understand. I hate Esme. It's true. But I also feel somewhat obsessed with her. She's not even that pretty. If lust is what I'm after, I can always get a girl who's prettier than her. Why do I have to feel jealous when other men are around her? Even the thought of my mother selling her off to hungry beasts here at my party is making me fuming mad. "Dude!" My brows arched upon hearing a familiar cocky voice. "f**k off, Luther." He smirked. "That's not a nice way to greet a friend you haven't seen for months," he scoffed. I rolled my eyes. He's so dramatic. "When you get back?" I frowned when he drank wine from my glass. He raised his hand in the air. "Sorry. I was a bit thirsty. We just arrived at Cander Lawn this afternoon. I was never a fan of land travel." "You're not gonna puke in my carpet, are you?" He laughed. "We'll see when I do..." he sarcastically replied. His eyes traveled to the other side of the room. "Holy s**t. Your sister has changed so much!" My pupils dilated upon hearing the sound of her name. I immediately followed where he was looking at and my jaw clenched when I saw what Esme was wearing. She's being surrounded by the crowd. Eyes are all at her. A tight silver short dress that hugs her curves like gloves. Her long soft legs are unbruised. She's gorgeous but she's dead to me.
