The girl whose phone had been stolen was extremely grateful to Leah and desperately wanted to invite her to dinner. Leah rejected her good intentions and walked towards the entrance of the airport to look for Harrison and Jackson.
On the other side, Harrison was leaning against the car, chatting with Jackson.
"Jackson, when is your mommy going to treat my great-grandfather?" Harrison asked.
Jackson was looking down and fiddling with his watch. The watch looked like an ordinary child's watch, but upon closer inspection, one could see that the structure was unusual. On the screen was even a map of New York.
This was America’s cutting-edge technology, a microcomputer, worn on the wrist, that could connect to the satellite.
Jackson replied without raising his head, "I don't know, but Mommy probably doesn't have time in the next two days. She's going to an interview."
"An interview?"
Harrison's eyes widened, "With your mommy's medical skills, would interviews even be necessary? Won't the world's best medical colleges fight over her?"
Not to mention those rich people who valued their lives more than anything else. They could only dream to keep Leah at home as their family doctor. After all, not everyone had the ability to steal human lives back from the grasp of the grim reaper.
Jackson said, "Not a medical school. It's Thomas Co. I recommended Mommy to apply to your family’s company."
"Thomas Co.?"
Harrison was even more flabbergasted. Then a guilty expression appeared on his face.
"The president of Thomas Co. is not an ordinary person. He is temperamental and no one in New York dares to provoke him. What if your mommy offends him and he bullies her? Let’s change companies!"
Jackson raised his head and said in bewilderment, "Does my mommy look that useless to you? Besides, the president of Thomas Co. is your relative. I’ve heard that Mr. Thomas is young, capable, and conquers the business world without a sweat. How could he be as bad as what you described?"
Jackson noticed Harrison’s unusual expression. He was a smart kid and thus he asked doubtfully, "Did you happen to upset Mr. Thomas before? You've been hiding in America and refusing to return because you were afraid of getting payback?"
Harrison's face changed dramatically, and he immediately recalled the unbearable past.
This child was too perceptive…
"Say it!" Jackson questioned, "Even if you don't say it, I can find out by myself. Humph."
The kid flaunted his watch, threatening to do as he said, and Harrison surrendered in an instant, "Stop threatening me. I know that you are the world's top hacker! I’ll tell you. Actually, the president of Thomas Co. is my... uncle."
"Oh?"
Jackson blinked his big eyes and feigned maturity by stroking his chin, "Reed Thomas is your uncle. This is something that I didn’t find. Tell me, how did you anger him?"
Harrison begged with a sorrowful face, "Your royal highness, stop forcing me. I will buy you ten ice creams later, okay? I really can't tell you this. If I tell you, I can't even stay in America anymore. My uncle will hunt me down to the ends of the earth!"
That day, he had good intentions and made a mistake, he didn’t expect...
A sly glint flashed across Jackson's eyes, "I’ll let you go this time. Ten ice creams it is, don't go back on your word. It's a promise!"
"No problem!"
Leah came out of the airport nonchalantly. Harrison hurried to meet her and said in a somewhat flattering tone, "Dr. Carter, when do you plan to treat my great-grandfather?"
Leah thought for a moment and said, "I plan to go to an interview at Thomas Co. tomorrow. You can arrange the rest of my time."
"Roger that! Let's go. I'll take you guys to the apartment first."
Harrison happily got into the car with Leah and Jackson.
Along the way, Leah looked at the scenery by the road and the towering buildings, and she couldn't help but feel a little absent-minded.
Harrison asked while driving, "Leah, it’s been six years since you left. New York has changed a lot, hasn’t it?"
"Yeah."
Leah spoke flatly. Many past events surged into her heart.
All of a sudden, the car passed by a commercial building, and the two words "Carter Enterprises" came into view. Leah straightened her back abruptly and her entire body tensed up.
After six years, the Carter family had developed to such a scale?
Scenes of the past surfaced. Chloe's complacent smile froze and she involuntarily clenched her fists tightly.
She’s back.
It was time to get back everything that belonged to her.
The car pulled up to an elegant and secluded neighborhood.
Harrison helped Leah carry her luggage in and said while busying himself, "Leah, you and Jackson are staying here for the time being. After some time, I'll get you a larger villa!
Leah looked around and was very satisfied with this place.
"No need. Thank you very much, Harrison."
"Don't stand on ceremony with me."
Harrison didn't dare to receive her thanks. After all, he had a favor to ask from her. His great-grandfather's illness completely depended on Leah’s skills!
Leah settled down in the apartment with Jackson. In a new environment, Jackson finally revealed the curiosity and innocence of a child as he ran around the house, "Mommy, will this be our new home from now on?"
"I like this place!" Jackson announced.
Leah looked at him with a smile, "Yup. Since you like it, let's stay here forever, shall we?"
"Okay!"
When Leah decided to return to New York, she was worried that Jackson wouldn't get used to it. However, to her surprise, Jackson accepted the new environment easily. He leaned against her chest and said obediently, "Mommy, I want to see your hometown more. I want to know what kind of life you had before giving birth to me."
Leah was astounded at his words.
In the blink of an eye, her son had grown up and become so sensible.
During these years abroad, if it weren’t for Jackson, Leah was not sure if she could have survived.
Her baby was the most obedient, sensible child in the world.
Leah hugged Jackson tightly, and her eyes were slightly red, "I promise you that we will not live a life of aimless drifting anymore. When everything is over, I will let you live joyfully."
Jackson nodded. At an angle that Leah couldn’t see, a dark gleam flashed across his huge eyes.
He would not let go of anyone who had bullied Mommy!
The next morning, the first ray of sunlight shone on Leah's porcelain face. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at Jackson, who was still sleeping soundly in her arms. She planted a kiss on his forehead and got out of bed.
Jackson rubbed his eyes and asked sleepily, "Mommy, are you going to the interview?"
"Yup. Jackson, stay at home and be good. I've already sent a message to Aunt Angie. She'll come and accompany you later!"
Jackson threw himself into Leah's arms, he rubbed his fluffy head against her and said in a spoiled manner, "Then, good luck for the interview, Mommy. Mommy is so amazing, you will definitely succeed!"
Leah laughed.
She wore a close-fitting business suit, highlighting her slim figure exceptionally. She put on light makeup, making her appear less seductive but more refined. After she finished dressing up, Leah blinked at the mirror. The beauty in the mirror was in high spirits, like a walking body of light, making people unable to take their eyes off her.
"Jackson, I’m leaving!"
Leah went out and was about to take a taxi when she bumped into a man dressed in a suit and leather shoes. The man's figure swayed and fell into her arms. Leah unconsciously caught him with a befuddled face.
Was this a new version of blackmail scams?
The man's eyes were closed and his face was pale, he didn't look like he was faking it. What's more, he seemed like he had either wealth or status from the way he dressed, so there was no need for him to blackmail a commoner like her.
A coughing fit assailed the man.
As the sick man coughed, his breathing began to quicken. Leah put him on the bench at the side, felt his pulse, and frowned.
"Asthma?"
She hastily searched the man's body. Normally, people with asthma would carry emergency medicine with them. She rummaged through the man's pocket and briefcase but could not find his medicine.
The man's face turned red, and his breathing became more and more rapid. A lot of people had gathered around, pointing in Leah's direction, and some even took out their mobile phones to record videos.
Leah didn’t care and immediately called 120. The ambulance arrived soon after. She transferred the man into the ambulance and gave him first aid along the way.
The doctor was taken aback and said, "Are you also a doctor? If it weren't for your fast reaction, I'm afraid this person would have died before he to the hospital."
She did her good deed to the end. She paid the medical fee for the man and contacted his family. She didn't leave the hospital until his family came.
Looking at the time, it was already ten o'clock in the morning. She had missed the interview appointment!
Leah sighed. She hoped that the interviewer would pay no heed to her tardiness in view of her courageous assistance to a stranger.
