Adrian knew about the grudges between the two of them. He suppressed his laughter and cajoled, "That’s enough, it’s been so many years since that incident happened. Your nephew messed up but he had good intentions. Why be so fixated on it?"
"However, this brat did not even tell you after returning to the country. Looks like he was traumatized after being punished by you back then."
Reed took a sip of wine without saying a word, but he thought to himself, "What on earth is Leah's background? How is she associated with Harrison?"
No matter what, Harrison was still a member of the Thomas family. This woman was very conniving, she must have had her own motives in getting close to him. It seemed like he had truly underestimated her abilities.
A dark glint flashed across Reed's eyes. After the auction, he wanted to thoroughly investigate Leah's background.
"Everyone, the following item will be the finale of this auction, the recipe for the Elixir of Youth!"
After the auctioneer's introduction ended, the assistant took out the item. It was just a thin piece of paper that was kept in a sealed bag, but it made everyone present shock.
Leah was also slightly intrigued. She nudged Harrison, who was drinking and playing finger-guessing with Angie beside her, "Don't you want to save your great-grandfather? Bid on this. I have heard of this Elixir of Youth. It may be effective for your great-grandfather's illness."
It was said that the Elixir of Youth had a magical effect on sickly bedridden people. Even if they couldn't be cured completely, they could hope for a prolongation of life. Leah had long been fascinated by the Elixir of Youth. This was a good opportunity to obtain the formula to study it carefully.
"Okay," Harrison nodded.
"The starting price is one million, with a minimum of 500,000 for every increment. Those who are interested, please raise your cards!"
Harrison immediately bid, "2 million!"
Then, the noise of bidding started.
"2.5 million!"
"3 million!"
In just a few minutes, the recipe for the Elixir of Youth went from one million to five million.
Harrison was a little dumbstruck. How could a thing that had a starting price of one million receive such a high bid?
Just as he was about to continue bidding, a slightly unfeeling voice came from the booth on the second floor, "8 million."
As soon as the sentence finished, all the people present went silent.
The Elixir of Youth was indeed rare, but it was not so valuable as to incur such a ridiculous cost. It seemed that the person sitting on the second floor was determined to obtain the Elixir of Youth.
“Which sucker dares to compete with me?” Harrison thought. He looked up and exchanged a glance with the so-called "sucker" on the second floor. A layer of cold sweat immediately covered his forehead.
Wildly handsome eyes and a piercingly deep gaze. Wasn't... wasn't the man… Uncle Reed?!
Reed’s gaze was ruthless. The miserable experience of being tortured by his uncle came to his mind. Harrison could not sit still anymore, "Leah, I'll go first. You guys can continue to have fun. Put everything you bid for on my tab!"
Leah was a little puzzled, "Where are you going?"
"I figured that it's not safe to stay here for long. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'll face a life-threatening disaster tonight," Harrison hurriedly stood up and ran away. Leah curiously looked at the second floor and happened to meet Reed’s cold eyes.
Well, it seemed that enemies were destined to cross paths. She happened to meet that lunatic again!
He also wanted to bid for the Elixir of Youth?
”Thinking about what had transpired earlier that day, Leah was full of anger. She picked up the number card on the table and said, "10 million!"
She would never let him get what he wanted!
Angie gasped, "Leah, are you crazy? Spending 10 million on a crappy formula?"
Leah looked at the second floor's private seat with distaste. She gritted her teeth and said, "It doesn't matter. Anyway, it’s going to be on Harrison's tab. Reed is here. I must not let his wish come true!"
Hearing that, Jackson could not help but follow Leah's gaze.
That was his Daddy? He did look very handsome, but he was still a lot inferior to him.
Whether or not Reed was worthy of his beautiful Mommy would be up to Jackson’s judgment!
"10.5 million."
The card on the second floor was lifted up slowly.
Leah said, “15 million!"
With that kind of price, it was far beyond the actual value of the Elixir of Youth. She didn't believe that Reed would still compete with her!
"15.5 million!"
"20 million!"
"20.5 million!"
"30 million!"
……
After a wave of bidding, the price of the Elixir of Youth soared to 55 million.
No matter how much Leah bid, Reed would still bid half a million more than her. It seemed that his sole purpose was to go against her.
The crowd was also stunned.
"Fifty million, that's too much, right? The world of the rich is hard to imagine!"
"It's obvious that they’re rivals. Let's wait and see if there’ll be a higher price."
Leah's mouth dried up from bidding. She picked up the orange juice on the table and took a swig. She glared at Reed, who was on the second floor. Reed shifted his body and looked completely at ease as he gazed at Leah.
Leah was so furious that she almost vomited blood.
She felt a rush of heat in her head as she raised the sign and called out, "Eighty million!"
"Wow, eighty million!" The crowd exclaimed in a low voice. This day was really an eye-opener. A prescription with the base price of one million dollars could actually be bid up to eighty million dollars!
Who were these two people? Were they some sort of deity with endless amounts of riches?
On the second floor, Taylor frowned slightly and said, "Reed, this woman is obviously going against you on purpose. Have you ever offended her?"
Reed glanced at her with disdain. He? Offend her?
Hah! He was just exposing Leah's hypocritical mask!
Arian laughed and joked, "I can tell that this woman is furious with Reed. It doesn't seem like it’s just a small matter. It could be Reed's previous love debt."
Reed glared at his good friend and Arian immediately shut up.
Who didn't know that Mr. Thomas had no interest in women and was pure-hearted? Forget about love debts, not even a woman had been seen around him after so many years.
Otherwise, Harrison wouldn’t have worried about his uncle's marriage...
Downstairs, Angie secretly tugged at Leah's clothes. "Leah, do we have that much money?"
Lead replied indifferently, "It's Harrison who’s going to pay anyway. It doesn't matter!"
Angie didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Are you so angry with Reed that you have to go against him? Harrison is rich, but eighty million dollars is still a lot. He will come crying and complaining to you again."
"Think about it. No matter how rich he is, Harrison is definitely not as rich as Reed. He is the president of Thomas Co. He can easily take out hundreds of millions of dollars. You're asking for trouble by competing with him in terms of wealth, aren't you?"
At Angie's reminder, Leah calmed down a little. She was indeed blinded by rage and acted too rashly.
Eighty million dollars wasn’t a small amount. It was probably hard for Harrison to fork out such an amount all at once. Leah asked Jackson in a low voice, "Jackson, how much money do we have left in our account?"
Jackson took a sip of orange juice and looked in Reed’s direction. "Definitely not eighty million dollars."
Why did Reed always bully his mommy?!
Leah remained silent.
She was doomed. If Reed refused to continue bidding, where would she get eighty million dollars?
Leah bit her teeth and looked at Reed. The man's dark eyes were deep, and no emotions were visible. Only those who knew him could see the hint of playfulness in his eyes. He was excited, like a hunter looking at the little prey that had just been caught.
Time seemed to have come to a standstill. Reed didn’t continue bidding. The crowd held their breath and waited for the result of the show. The scene was quiet and strange for a moment.
One minute… Two minutes… The few minutes of waiting seemed to have lasted as long as three hours.
Leah's palms were sweaty. She was a little nervous. Was Reed really giving up?
"Eighty million once, eighty million twice. Are there any higher bids?" The auctioneer shouted on stage. The gavel in his hand was about to land on the table.
Everyone knew that no one could bid higher than that. They would be the real deal if they did!
Reed ignored them and drank his whiskey leisurely, as though he had given up completely.
Leah looked at him angrily, and her eyes clearly read, "Reed, you villain!"
Eighty million! D*mn it! Where would she raise so much cash in such a short time?!
As the auctioneer was about to hit the sound block, someone on the second floor slowly raised a sign, "Eighty and a half million."
"Eighty and a half million once, eighty and a half million twice… Sold!"
"The final price of the Elixir of Youth is eighty and a half million dollars. Let's congratulate the guest on the second floor!"
