Escaping death

Nyra's pov
“Look!”
“There’s someone there!” a voice shouted, followed by the quick thud of approaching footsteps.
“It's just a little pup, I think she is alive, get her to Alpha Rowan immediately.” he ordered.
In an instant, a strong, muscular hand lifted me up and within seconds, he was running at a pace so fast it felt like I had only minutes to live.
“Alpha, we saw this pup at the outskirts of our border.” the man carrying me said.
A hand touched my face as if it was examining it, then it moved to my pulse point.
“Her pulse is weak but she is still alive, quickly take her to the hospital and ask Martin to attend to her quickly.” the other voice said and with that the man holding me started running again.
The breeze swept across my face as we traveled, bringing with it a calm that soothed my aching heart and chills that numbed my pain.
He stopped again, and faint voices echoed through the haze.
“Martin, Alpha Rowan said you should attend to this pup now,”
“She looks dehydrated and pale,”
“I think she might have been lost or maybe she ran away from home, anyway just do your magic. I'm off to meet my teammates.”
I stayed in the hospital for three days under strict supervision of Martin—the doctor.
He fed me, tended to my wounds and would occasionally try to brighten up my mood but frankly speaking I was in so much sorrow that laughter was a luxury I couldn't afford.
On the third day Alpha Rowan came visiting and he tried to start a conversation with me but I couldn't talk, the words just couldn't form.
“You know you can talk to me right? I don't bite. I just want to help you, if you let me,” he said, urging me to talk but I just stared blankly at him.
“Martin, has she been like this since she came?”
“Yes Alpha, I think she is suffering from shock, you need to give her time, she should get better with time,” Martin answered, bowing his head.
“Ohh my little girl, you must have gone through a lot,” his hands rubbing my head.
“When will she be discharged?”
“I would like to watch her for two more days, Alpha,”
“Okay. When she’s ready to be discharged, let me know. I’ll send someone to fetch her.”
And with that, I was left alone in my world— reliving every memory, every pain, every loss. Tears fell freely as my head ached, until sleep finally took me.
Five days later, I was escorted to Alpha Rowan’s home, a decent house not fancy like my home but enough to live in hiding.
“Welcome home dear, this is your room,” He said, leading me to a well furnished room by the hallway.
“Do you like it?” He asks but as expected I couldn't say a word.
“Ok, then let's get you settled in,” he lifted me to the bed and gently unbuckled my shoes, removing them from my feet and placing them close to the drawer by the bedside.
Tears streamed down my eyes, I was reminded of my father, how he would usually dress me up every morning and tuck me to bed at night.
“Did I do something wrong?” he asked, confusion written all over his face.
I shook my head, signaling to him that he didn’t.
“I’m sorry, please stop crying,” He said, patting me on my back.
“Can you write?” He asked, handing me a pen and a book. I wrote down yes, I could see the joy in his face, he seemed satisfied that I could express myself in writing since I couldn't speak.
“What is your name?” He continued. I wasn't sure if I should tell him my real name. Although he wasn't part of the people that attacked us, I didn't know him and I couldn't tell if I could trust him.
My name is Ann, I wrote down.
That was the only name that echoed in my mind—my mother's name.
“Wow Ann, it's nice to meet you,”
“Do you belong to any pack?” He continued.
Pack? He was definitely trying to know where I'm from and the time isn't right yet, I need to ensure my safety first and if it means lying then I should do so.
I shook my head signalling I didn't belong to any pack with tears streaming down my face. I could see guilt building in his face and I guess that was why he stopped asking me questions.
“That will be all for today, let's get you to bed.” He said as he undressed me, changed me into pajamas, and tucked me into bed.
He switched off the lights in the room and left for his room. Alone in the dark cold room, the memories started to flow in and before I knew it my eyes were filled with tears again, my heart with pain and my mind with revenge.
I tried closing my eyes, forcing sleep to come, but the images of that day kept replaying in my head.
Eventually, sleep drew me in.
But once again, the nightmares woke me, and just like that, I stayed awake the rest of the night, in tears and in fear.
Morning was gracious enough to come quickly, I arranged my bed, took my bath and headed for the dining, I was done sulking. If I wanted revenge, there are things I needed to know.
“Ann…here you are, sit down, let's eat,” he said, pulling the dining chair out for me to sit at the dining table with his family, which I did.
“I didn't know what you would like so I asked the chef to prepare different dishes, I hope you find one that soothes your taste,”
I smiled at him, Alpha Rowan was a kind man, he reminded me so much of my father, the way he treated everyone like we were all equal and that was what got him killed, I was determined to be different.
“I forgot to ask you yesterday, what is your rank?”
“Are you an Alpha, Beta or Omega?” He continued.
Using my fingers I inscribed Omega in the air, I was still bent on hiding my identity till it was safe to reveal the truth.
“Ok no p, your task would be assigned to you after breakfast or do you have any specific thing in mind you wish to learn?”
“I want to learn military strategy and how to win a war.” I said.
The room became quiet with all eyes on me, shock written all over their faces.
