A Disappointing Start

As soon as Mac linked her and Alex that they have to go, they both knew that something is going on. They didn’t ask why, but they tried to act casually as they both went to the checkout to queue for Maisie to pay for her charger. They knew they were not in immediate danger so there was no point to alarm the humans. If they were, they’d have dropped everything and left. As soon as Maisie was finished paying they walked towards McKenzie who just finished talking to someone on his phone. He smiled at them but they can see the tension in his eyes. “Act normal.”He said with a fake smile. “We were being watched. I don’t know by who or how many or if they are still watching. We have to stay here for now to wait for Mandy’s call. “Mandy? Why would you call her?” Maisie asked confused. “She knows what to do, trust me. I will fill you in later.” Mac replied. Maisie didn’t have a choice but to nod. Alex was already pretending to check out some phone displays. If someone noticed them, all they’d see is three young people checking out some phones. “What did you see?”Alex whispered as she pretend to check out a phone. “Party store at the opposite. There was four mannequins in hallowe’en outfits. Now there’s only three. I only took my eyes off for a few seconds and when I looked back one of them is gone. There was no way a staff could have move it that quick.” Mac answered. Maisie was curious so she pretended to take a selfie with Alex, positioning it to have the party store as a background. She took the picture and they both checked the picture, there they can see three mannequins in the middle of the store. “Holy s**t! You’re right, the one with the skull mask is gone.” Maisie whisper shouted. She noticed the mannequin’s earlier when she looked out, but only because she liked the cowboy hat worn by the mannequin in a slutty nurse outfit. Alex was going to say something but got interrupted by Mac’s phone that started ringing. “Hello.” Mac answered. Alex and Maisie also paid attention and listened. They can hear Mandy even if it was not on loudspeaker because of there werewolf hearing. “Are you okay?” Mandy asked “We’re fine. We can’t see or sense anything suspicious at the moment. We just don’t want to be followed and we will also be out in the open if we walk to get back.”Mac answered.” “Understood. Now, what you guys need to do is to walk out to the front of the shopping centre. There is a black cab waiting for you at the taxi rank, just at the front of the building. Check for the one with a pink steering wheel, that’s your ride. I will send you a picture of the driver now. He is human but he knows what he needs to do. Everything is taken care off. No one will risk hurting you in the open with all the humans around. Now, go.” Mandy instructed before putting the phone down. They took turns in looking at the picture that Mandy sent. “Let’s go.” Mac said. They walked out casually. The three of them holding a shopping bags in one hand. They stopped twice for the girls to pretend to take selfies, acting like your typical young women but in reality they were taking videos hoping to capture something or someone on the footage for them to check later on. As soon as they reached outside they were surprised at how dark it was, it has also started raining a little. They walked fast to the taxi rank and luckily there was only three taxi waiting there and they noticed the hot pink steering wheel of the one at the front. They recognised the driver sitting at the driver’s seat from the picture, who gave them a wave when he saw them. Alex open the door and went in first, followed by Maisie and then Mac. “ Evenin troubles.”Greeted the driver with a thick Irish accents. “Mandy said you got yourselves in a bit of a pickle?”He joked as he drove away from the shopping centre. “You can say that again.” Alex muttered, making the driver laugh. Maisie is stayed silent. The driver seems oddly familiar and she was trying to wrack her brain as to why. “Ah! It happens. You Supernaturals are territorial as they come. And when new bloods comes to town, everyone seems to find out, so they come out and check who has got the bigger willy.” The driver said with a laugh. Making Mac laugh too. “I like you man, your funny.” Mac said to the driver. “But how did you know Mandy and how do you know about us? The driver didn’t answer but instead he looked up at the rear view mirror and made eye contact with Maisie which puzzled Maisie. “Ey, lil Mais? Good to see you again, love. I’ve never seen you so quite before? Has the cat got your tongue?” The driver addressed Maisie. “Oh. My. Fuckin. Goddess! Uncle Tommy is that you?” Maisie screamed excitedly. “Fuckin hell! This is so unbelievable. I cannot believe it’s you! I did not recognised you because you look so old, and so scruffy and old.” “Hey, hey! First of all, stop with the screamin! it’s very distracting….”Tommy said loudly.” And second, please don’t call me old, you lil s**t, I’ve matured that’s all. And third! Tone down the swearin, would’ya? When did you become such potty mouth?” Maisie just laughed happily, she suddenly feel like she can breath easy. If she had a doubt earlier about being driven by a stranger in an area they barely knew, that has gone now. She knew Uncle Tommy will keep them safe. “I really want to know how you two knew each other, but I’d really love to find out more where you’re taking us first please because I’m pretty sure this is not the way back to our new place.” Alex blurted out. “We’re almost there, darlin.” That’s all Tommy has said making Alex sigh heavily. After a few minutes in the busy main road, they turned to a quiet neighbourhood. They all kept alert, just in case. The row of houses are all attached and most of them have there lights on. Then Tommy slowed down and pulled into the driveway of one of the townhouses. The garage door opened and he drove in and the garage closed behind them. The garage is very small, there’s only a small space to get in and out of a car and a door to the side. Weirdly enough, the wall in front of the car looks just like a garage door. “Why are we stopping here?” Maisie inquired. “Is this your house? “ No love. You will find out soon enough.” Tommy answer. “Let’s get inside.” Tommy got out of the taxi first and walked to the door, put in the key code, opened the door and went inside. The three of them just looked at each other without saying a word, then shrugged before they got out of the taxi and followed Tommy inside. The door opened to a small kitchen, where they found Tommy putting the kettle on and on a process of making himself a cup of tea. “Fancy a cuppa?”He asked them. They all shook their head. He shrugged and said. “Suit ya selves.” “Mandy is just using the loo, she’ll be here in a bit.” Tommy said informing them as he finished making his tea. “Ah, here she is.” They all turned to the door that he gestured to. “Soooo, you lot really wanted to make your presence known huh?” Mandy asked looking at them intently while she stood by the door. Making the three of them feel like little kids being caught doing something naughty. “When you asked me for recommendations earlier, I didn’t think you’d actually come out the same day that you just got here.” “Lucky for you,” Mandy paused making eye contact with each of the one at a time, her gaze lingering on Maisie before continuing, “Enzo was sensible enough to give me a heads up of what you might’ve been planning when you get here. I had just about enough time to put some added security measures in place.” Mandy added, but clearly still unhappy. Maisie was going to say something to defend there action but Mandy put her hand up to stop her. “If you’re going to tell me that you only came out for a meal and a bit of shopping, save it.” Mandy said accusingly. “From what you’re brother has told me, it’s clear that you came here for a purpose. But, I’m telling you now. If you keep acting recklessly like this, you will not survive very long and you will take your friends down with you.” “We will continue this discussion later. Now, say thank you to Thomas and let’s go.” Mandy gestured to Tommy, who was leaning on the fridge on one corner holding a cup of tea, enjoying himself as he watched them getting told off. Then Mandy turned around disappearing through the hallway. Mac and Alex mumbled their thanks to Tommy before following Mandy. Maisie stayed behind. She looked at Tommy, who was still looking amused. “I thought Mandy was gonna whoop your backsides just then. And I was prepared to hold you all down while she does. What a shame.” Tommy said mockingly. Maisie just laughed. They both know that no matter how strong Tommy is, it’s nothing compared to their wolf strength. “Thank you Uncle Tommy.” Maisie looked at him smiling. “It’s nice to see you again.” “Any time lil Maisie. Come’re.” Tommy said while opening his arms. Maisie walked to him and they hugged. “You’re all grown up.” Mumbled Tommy while still in a hug. When they moved apart Tommy kept his hand on each arm, they looked at each other’s eyes with sadness. “ I am really sorry about your Ma. I was out of the country when it happened and I got back few months later and that’s only when I found out.” Maisie can see that Tommy is trying to control his emotions at that moment. “It’s okay Uncle Tommy, and thank you.” Maisie said with a little smile then hugged Tommy again before she started to walk towards where Mandy and her friends just went. “Remember kiddo, I’m here if you need me or even if you don’t.” “I’ll remember, old man.” She said as she disappeared down the hallway but she still heard Tommy’s laugh.
