After getting reacquainted with Dexter, Mandy told them while sternly looking at Maisie to go to their apartment and think things through before they make anymore stupid move. She told them that they will discuss it the next morning. The couple went to their own apartment and the three went up to theirs. As soon as they went inside their new place Mac gave Maisie her shopping bag before heading towards his room. Maisie took her bags and walk to the kitchen and set the bags down in one of the chairs before walking towards the sink, washed her hands before starting to rummage the cupboards then the fridge. Alex just went to sit on one of the big sofa. She took one of her shopping bag and checked the content then put it back down and check the other. “There you are.”Alex mumbled as she took out three bags Doritos in different flavours and 3 jars of dip. “Oh yum…”Maisie said enthusiastically eyeing the Doritos that Alex laid out on the table. “I got the food, you bring the drinks.” Alex said to Maisie before she stood and went to the bathroom. When Alex came back out, the coffee table has a few choices of canned drinks, 3 Hi ball glasses, 3 empty bowls, a plate of baby carrots and baby cucumbers and a bowl of hummus. There was also a big empty bowl in the middle. “Oh no, no,no.” Alex exclaimed. “We are not doing that again. Noooo way.” She said shaking her head. “You are no fun.” Maisie said disappointed while she grabbed the big bowl and put it back in the kitchen. “I am not letting you mix all the three bags of different flavoured Doritos in a bowl just for the fun of it. I like mine as they are and not tainted with any other yucky flavours.” Alex said to Maisie as they both sat in the sofa on the opposite sides of the coffee table. Maisie took her phone of her pocket and texted Mac. They both opened their own bag of Doritos and a can of drinks and started eating. Two minutes later Mac came out of his room wearing a pair of light blue basketball shorts and jersey. “Ey! Great timing. I was about to text Mandy if we are allowed to get takeaway in this place with all the security and all that, but this will do for now.” He said as he rubbed both his hands as he eyed the food. “With the amount of food you ate earlier? Seriously, Mac?” Maisie asked Mac. “Yep, seriously.” He answered as he sat down next to Maisie before grabbing a baby cucumber and eating it in a few bites. “If we’re at the pack I’d tell you to go see the pack doctor but we’re not. Maybe Maisie can take you to the vet instead in your wolf form for a deworming or something. Your wolf is probably the reason why you eat so much anyway, bloody mongrel.” Alex said with a tinge of disgust in her tone. “That’s a bit harsh.”Maisie said mortified by what Alex just said to Mac but Mac just shrugged it off. “She’s probably right. Sometimes even I’m disgusted at what Aram eat when I let him out. Last time he ate a rotting and maggot infested deer he found on a run.” Mac said as he shoved more food in his mouth. Both Alex and Maisie stopped eating and gagged. They pushed all the snacks away towards Mac, which he happily took and piled up in front of him. Mac eventually slowed down with his food rampage after a few minutes and he noticed Maisie twiddling with her finger and clearly bothered by something. “Just so you know, I didn’t have to tell Enzo anything.” Mac said to no one in particular. “He already knew as soon as you mentioned studying in London. We’ve always known that it will happen and we just waited for it.”Mac continued. “But how and when?” Maisie asked, completely puzzled. “We always knew because you said it at your mother’s funeral rites. We’re probably the only one’s who took a word of a grieving 10 year old seriously but we did. You training and working hard only confirmed it.” Mac answered in a serious tone. “Did you not ever wonder how he never stopped you from training? Or why he helped you with training even if you were so young? Or how you got away with training with deadly weapon even with your age and how the adults especially the Alpha was kept in the dark about those things and how you were never caught?” Mac asked looking at Maisie and then continued without waiting for Maisie to answer. “You managed all those because of Enzo. Because he knew that he wouldn’t be able to stop you when the time comes and all he could do was to make sure you are prepared and that you can protect and fight for yourself.” Maisie didn’t know what to say about anything that Mac just said. Wether she admits it or not she does owe her brother a lot. “But what about Mandy?” Maisie asked. “Mandy manage the security side of the pack’s business. The only thing that Enzo told me before we left was that if we get to a situation that I know Me and Alex might not be able to completely keep you safe that I should call Mandy. So that’s what’s I did.” Mac answered before continuing to munch on the snack. “Do you think she would tell dad? Alex, who was just listening to them butted in with a snigger. “I’m guessing NO is the answer to that. If she did then we probably are packing by now and you’ll probably be grounded for life and you’ll have to spend the rest of your days locked in a tower because there’s no way you’re dad will let you out of his sight ever again.” “Uhuh,” Mac said in agreement. “So no then.” Maisie mumbled. She was relieved. “You really have to think things through Mais,” Alex said with a serious tone,” we can’t keep doing thing that is unplanned just because you think it’s a good idea.” “I know you are hellbent on finding out who killed your mother but at the end of the day, you have to prioritise your safety first. Your years of training will just go to waste if fail you to survive.” Alex continued. “ I know we just got here and we haven’t even had a chance to talk things through. I mean, what is your actual plan? I know what you want to do but how exactly are you going to do it?” Mac asked. “Do you actually have one?” Alex piped in. “I have the all the police reports and all the information gathered by the pack investigator. I also have the leads provided by the bounty hunters who tried to look for the killers.” She informed them as she fiddled with her phone and then she passed her phone to Alex. Mac looked at the phone curiously. Mac got up to move next to Alex to see whatever was on the phone as well. “ Most of the information led the investigator and bounty hunters to a dead end but some of them I would like to pursue.” Maisie continued talking as Alex and Mac went through the documents on her phone. “Where did you get all these?” Mac asked without looking at her. “ I downloaded it from uncle Henry’s computer 2 years ago.” She answered hesitantly. Both Alex and Mac looked up. They stared at her accusingly. “Hey! Don’t give me that look. He left his computer with those file open so I downloaded it. If uncle Henry didn’t want people poking around in his computer then he shouldn’t have left it like that. I saw an opportunity so I took it.” She said defensively. “Because he probably didn’t expect a nosy teenager going around the ranked wolves office and stealing important documents either.” Alex said with a raised brow. Mac chose not to say anything and both continued looking at the documents. They finished five minutes later. “That was a lot of information, I think we need to through them properly and sort them out.” Mac said. Alex just gave a small nod in agreement. “I already did that,I just wanted to show you everything that has been gathered. I think I will print them out and set them up in the office.” Maisie said pointing at the room that was set up as an office and library they saw earlier. “You do that, but I need to know what really is your plan?” Alex asked curiously. “Maybe in your head you had everything planned out but you are only 16. You’re so young and let’s be honest, even though you are well trained and you probably can protect yourself in a fight and you can definitely win for sure. But….you are still inexperienced. You haven’t lived outside the pack before and outside the pack is a different world. I mean, let’s say you found whoever killed your mum, you stood there face to face, then you fight and you end up having that person’s throat wrapped with your hands or you are holding a gun to there head. Will you actually be able to snap their neck or pull the trigger? Because it’s easy to think of killing those who did you wrong but when it comes to the actual deed, it’s different. Have you actually shot or killed anyone before?” Maisie did not answer just quietly looked at Alex. “Alex is right.” Mac interjected. “We are here to protect you, that’s our job. That’s why you have to tell us what really is it that you’re planning because wether you like it or not we are involve. You probably haven’t incorporated other people to get involved but here we are.” Mac paused to gauge Maisie’s reaction, but when she didn’t say anything he continued. “As Alex said, you are trained but absolutely no experience. But, we do. I think it’s best if you tell us everything and it’s probably best to involve Mandy.” Maisie was about to object about Mandy being involved but Mac put a hand up. “ We will need her experience and expertise with surveillance and security. Our experiences and skills will help you, that’s why you picked both of us, now you need to actually listen and trust us.” Maisie sighed as she realised that all has been said by Alex and Mac is true. She must admit that she do need a lot of help. And this is only their first day.
