21 year old Draco Malfoy knocked on my door. My name is Alexandra Malfoy, Draco Malfoy’s sister and the last child of Narcissa Malfoy and Lucius Malfoy before they divorced. My brother barged in without an answer. I was sitting on my massive, cushioned bed reading Keeper of the Lost Cities and petting one of my several dogs. I looked up as he entered the room, and smiled slightly while putting my bookmark in. He stopped, unsure if he could come in. I waved him over to my bed, and he moved slowly.
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
“Dad.” The one word he said, the expression showing the rest. Severus Snape had married our father after the Battle of Hogwarts and we now called dad, was waiting downstairs with some urgent, possibly life-changing information. What could Dad possibly need? Did I do something? Well, I need to move to find out. I quickly moved from the bed. All of the dogs stood and followed me, pausing when I did, and when I was downstairs and settled on the couch under a soft blanket, settled around me and watched.
My 13 dogs and I live in a large, light blue house, but on the inside all you would think is that someone goth lived there. The amount of things that are black or gray is unreal, and when my brother tries to bring some color in, I immediately put it right back where it came from. My brother visits me almost every day, sometimes with his wife when she is well enough. The number of times she needed a healer has become way too many, and my fathers and I are supporting Dray, his wife, and unborn child until she gets better and he can work again.
I snapped out of my blast from the past as Dad entered the room. “I am retiring from the post of the Defense Against the Dark Arts, and I was suggested you, little one.” The last part was directed at me. “I know you are only nineteen years of age, but I would like you to take my place. You have the night to think, and please tell me your decision. I will not be upset if you decline, but I think you will enjoy the students and other teachers. You can work part-time, considering there is already another applicant that has been approved. It is Andrew Potter.”
Andrew Potter was Harry Potter’s older brother by 3 years, and a sporty, moody scholar, so as others say. He was 5 years above me, but I graduated not long after he did. Being in some of my classes with him was challenging, considering the past our brothers had, so I took my distance, making sure to say polite words if I was spoken to. To say we were different was an understatement. While I was constantly with my nose in books, he was out on the grounds, goofing off with his friends. I was in Slytherin house, and he was in Gryffindor. I was silently shunned for being the daughter and sister of Death Eaters, so I never had any friends. Or, real friends, I should say.
I realized my Dad and Dray were staring at me worriedly. “I was lost in time, wasn’t I?” It wasn’t really a question. I did it all the time. They nodded, and I let out a sigh. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I was thinking about what it was like at Hogwarts before. Not the best memories I have, but…” Pausing, I looked up through my lashes to see them both looking heated. Quickly, I said, “I didn’t get bullied, if that’s what you’re thinking. I just wasn’t the most social.” Their expressions cleared. I then quietly excused myself to my room, where I pondered this through the night and into the next morning. I came to the conclusion that I would accept the job. I hope we will get along… he avoided me a lot, but I think it was because I wasn’t really interested in talking to other people. My bad. In the morning, I packed my bags and transported them to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for an eventful year.
