Chapter 6

2280 Words
She kept a close eye on everything that was going on, and she was painfully aware that Prince Logan didn't need a fancy outfit to show off his physique. In the midday light, he looked intriguing wearing black pants, a basic T-shirt, and a jacket. She didn't realise she had a weakness for towering, broad-shouldered males who appeared like they could take on the world until last night. for those whose eyes would grin one minute and then become clouded with gloomy feeling the next, as if they witnessed things that no man should see. She had always believed that she was more attracted to men who were intellectually ambitious, with fresh faces and blonde hair, just like Ethan. Not boiling over with barely contained traces of physical energy How incredibly mistaken she'd been. While he was walking about, she could feel her skin drawing in and every nerve ending vibrating. "I want to say thank you for calling. I appreciate it.' She put the phone down with great caution. 'A problem?' He moved closer while maintaining a vigilant gaze. Emily took a deep breath in and then rested her hands on the desk before continuing. She hoped that her response from the night before had been an isolated incident. But the second time she saw him in person, all of her hopes were dashed that she'd imagined her reaction to the forceful masculinity of this man. As captivating as his jaw-dropping good looks were, so too was his vigour, his sense of force and capability. He had jet-black hair, eyes the colour of the night, high cheekbones, and a prominent nose, which gave him the appearance of a formidable aristocrat. Despite this, he had the mouth of a seducer; it was invitingly provocative and seductive. Emily blinked. Where on earth did you get that? "Are you Dr. Arthur?" ‘Sorry. I was...pondering things.' She struggled desperately to clear her mind. I've just learned that the date of the test will be pushed back. She was in a hurry, and he was frowning. "I'd hoped for an early result on the age of the parchment but it will take longer than I'd hoped," she said. "It will take longer than I'd hoped." The justifications that had been presented to her were reasonable. Emily became sceptical, however, because of the awkward manner in which Ethan's assistant repeated herself. Wasn't it bad enough that Ethan had taken the job that should have properly belonged to Emily? He'd been the first male to show any interest in her, cynically playing on her naive crush to keep her hanging on longer than she needed to be kept waiting for him. In spite of the fact that she had assisted him for an additional number of hours, he continued to claim credit for her labour as his own. After receiving a promotion as a result of it, he then abruptly broke up with his girlfriend. Her pride prevented her from exposing his double-dealing as well as her own poor decision-making. Instead, she had become even more reclusive within herself, nursing a broken heart while making a solemn promise to never put herself in such danger again so easily. Was he at such a low point that he may even derail this project? In the past, she never would have considered doing that. Now, she was left wondering whether or not the rumour she'd overheard was true, and whether or not he viewed her as a professional danger. Would he truly allow his ego to come in the way of his pursuit of scientific knowledge? The very thought made her queasy. How could she have been so blind to his actual nature? They're handing back the paperwork, right? She looked in awe as the azure fire in the prince's eyes spread over the room. 'Not yet. I really hope this won't be a lengthy holdup.' Emily observed the tightening of his mouth. He was unable to wait. In spite of what he had said the night before, it is reasonable to assume that he is thrilled by the prospect of being king. Who wouldn't be interested? "These are the last pieces of the recently discovered documents?" He pointed to the storage area that was located along one wall of the large room. "A great number of them. Some of the ones that are less susceptible to damage have been left alone until we can thoroughly evaluate them. "Yet it's possible that there are papers with more sensitive information among them?" ‘Possibly. However, only a small percentage of the population would be able to read them. Even with my years of experience, I'm having trouble understanding some of the texts. It is challenging and requires a lot of effort. "That is of no consequence. We need to find a place to store all of them safely. He made his way aimlessly down the room, examining the arrangement as he went. In spite of her objectives, she continued to follow every stride, soaking in the sight of his strong figure. I want you to figure out exactly what it is that you require and tell me about it right now. They will be locked, and access will be granted only with my permission. Emily gave a little shake of the head. "It's not just an issue of space; it's about a properly regulated environment and It's not just a matter of space." 'I understand. Just let me know what has to be done, and I'll get it done.' "The price will be quite high." The prince dismissed the matter by waving his hand. He was well known for his enormous fortune. After he had his self-interest in mind, money was no longer an issue for him. When Emily thought back on how her efforts had been virtually neglected in the past, she tried her best to stifle a twinge of sadness that she was experiencing. She assumed that his possessive demeanour was due to legitimate concerns. After all, they were discussing the evidence necessary to establish kingship. And if it meant taking good care of the archives, then that was an added bonus. She was standing. "While we wait, would it be possible for me to have the text to work on?" This evening, I will translate a few more sentences.' After hearing her news late the previous night, the prince insisted on accompanying her here to view the original document. He did so against her will. Then, he took it away from her without any prior notice and in spite of her protests. The fact that he did not recognise the extent to which it was frail caused her concern. ‘Certainly.’ He took a quick check at his watch, indicating that he was obviously ready to be somewhere else. "But not today it's too late," she said. ‘But He moved across the room to get an uncomfortablely close stance. She felt his heat and absorbed the clean, spicy scent that emanated from his skin, and at that moment, she wished she had remained seated. "But there is nothing. Since you've been here, it seems like the only thing you've done is work. You have acknowledged that this is physically demanding labour. He glanced down at her with sparkling eyes, and a tremor rippled down her legs as it travelled down her body. She clenched her fists and stood up as straight as she could muster. "I'm not a slave driver, and I don't want you making yourself ill working all hours," the master said to the employee. "But I really do want to!" What else could she do with her evenings than sit about and do nothing? He appeared to be confused. "Not tonight," she said. He shifted his focus and moved towards the entrance, hesitating on the threshold of the door. "I would really appreciate it if you could email me those storage needs..." "Don't worry, I'll take care of it right away.” He c****d his head and then walked away. Emily remained there, her body undulating ever-so-slightly as she fixed her gaze on the spot where he had been. She had anticipated that her discovery would pique his interest in the topic. She had not considered the possibility of being marginalised in the procedure. She scolded herself and insisted that wasn't what he'd done at all. She was letting her interactions with a charming liar to cloud her judgement because of the experiences she had had with him. It was admirable of Prince Logan to be worried about how well she was doing. It was prudent on his part to take an interest in making sure the documents were properly filed away. So why did she get the impression that she was being played against herself? Around six o'clock in the evening, Logan left the castle to go to the fitness centre located on the opposite side of the compound. He had to get some exercise to release all of this pent-up energy. Even if he had normal sleeping patterns, Emily Arthur had completely ruined any possibility of him getting any rest last night. The genealogist had already cautioned today that it would take some time to prove or disprove a claim to the throne. Logan desired for it to be resolved, and in his ideal world, discredited, as soon as possible. It was against his nature to wait, which was dependent on factors that he could not influence. In addition to this aggravating fact, his investigators had found very little information about the Englishwoman. Absolutely no one could have had such a simple history, right? They had mentioned some of her academic accomplishments, her reputation for being a hard worker, and a bit about her peaceful upbringing spent with her ageing parents. But there was no mention of boyfriends. For that matter, any friends at all. A mere suspicion that she may have been having an affair with one of her coworkers. Under different conditions, he may view her as what she presents herself to be: a reserved and devoted worker. However, he was unable to take any risks. Not until he was sure that she was exactly what she appeared to be. She gave off an impression that was far too pure to be trusted. As he went by the elevated viewing level for the squash court, he slowed down. The lights were on, and he took a moment to check out which members of the crew were performing. There was just one of them. A woman who was nimble and nimble-footed as she blasted the ball around the court during vigorous practise. Logan stared, briefly unable to identify the woman in front of him. She dove and twisted to go for a low ball, and for a split second her breasts pressed up against her baggy T-shirt as she ran after the ball. After a brief pause, she shifted her weight on her long legs with a dexterity that he couldn't help but admire. The length of those legs, which were obscured by baggy shorts, caught his attention and held it. Inside of him, a sizzle of indolent heat sparked, and he grinned appreciatively at the sensation. There was a time-tested treatment for sleeplessness, and he relied on it frequently. A lovely young lady and She turned around, and as she did, a surge of heat shot through Logan's torso and cut off his ability to breathe. Instantaneously, he tightened up as his hormones went into overdrive. It turned out to be Emily Arthur . Yet not. Given the way she was dressed, he ought to have been able to guess that it was her. But she had a quite different appearance. As he took in the extensive amount of exposed skin, his mouth began to dry up. As a result of the effort, the skin became rosy and alluring. Her legs were truly some of the most delicious I've ever seen. When that shirt of hers twisted, he saw that her breasts were bigger than he had anticipated given that she was dressed like a grandmother. When she walked, her shiny ponytail swayed seductively like an invitation to touch her sensual tresses, which were soft around her face and escaped in wisps from around her head. She took deep breaths through her mouth, her lips no longer primped but shockingly full of fullness as she did so. Her eyes glittered Her eyes! No glasses. When he noticed that she did not have unsightly glasses on her face, his suspicions immediately rose. Perhaps she wore glasses or contact lenses. But why should you conceal the rest of the time behind frames that make you look bad? Had she made any attempt to hide her identity? She had done an excellent job of masking the appealing woman underneath a drab façade and a prickly professional demeanour. Why? What was she trying to conceal? It was as if she made a conscious effort to portray herself as an absent-minded professor who was more preoccupied with her reading than the world around her. She appeared to be too sincere and serious to be dishonest. But something in him nagged, and he couldn't shake the feeling that this was on purpose. Logan used his momentum to launch himself down the nearby staircase. A dreadful cardigan and a case for eyeglasses were sitting on a bench close to the entrance to the courtroom. The latter was opened, and he put the glasses to his face while looking through them. It dawned on him like a bolt of lightning, and he muttered an expletive under his breath. They merely provided a very minute magnification.
