I awoke to fresh coffee brought to me that morning by Ana. I looked out over the balcony as Ajax played to my side with a small ball. I could see Marcus in the courtyard on his satellite phone. I no longer saw much point in avoiding him. He was now my partner, I guess, and he expected our relationship to be as normal as possible. If I ever thought to escape again, I would need to keep up that ruse. Nonetheless, the plan of escape now seemed farther out of reach than ever.   I made my way down to the garden with Ajax.
