devin's brother

IVY’S P.O.V “Oh, hey Ivy….” Cameron began, his lips pulling into a smile. His voice trailed off and the smile quickly vanished when he saw the state I was in. I could only imagine what he saw – my eyes red, my cheeks swollen and tears streaming down my face freely. He stepped into the elevator, the doors closing behind him. “Ivy, are you okay?” I wanted more than anything to say that I was fine. To dry my tears and say, ‘nothing, I’m just being emotional’. The last person I would want to tell about my situation with Devin was his brother because for all his kindness and sweetness, Cameron did not get along well with Devin and I could only imagine what would happen if I told him that I was having an affair with his brother. But as I opened her to say ‘I’m fine, thank you’ , a loud sob burst out if me instead and I started crying all over again. Without thinking twice, Cameron held his hand out, grabbed me and pulled me into his arms, his hands circling around me as I leaned my head on his shoulders and soaked his shirt with my tears. The doors slid open but before I could pull herself together to see who it was, Cameron bellowed, ‘Out!” and the doors shut again. We stayed still until the elevator finally stopped and the doors opened again. I pulled myself away and the two of us stepped out of the elevator. “Here.” Cam reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a pair of shades. “Wear this. I don’t think you want anyone to know you are crying.” “Thanks,” I answered, my voice shaky. I dried my tears with the back of my palm, reached out to collect the shades and put it on. “Thanks,” I said again, trying hard to steady my voice. “Sorry about your shirt,” I whispered. “It’s fine,” he answered dismissively. “Are you going somewhere? Do you want me to take you home?” “I…” I hiccupped…”i…brought my car.” I hiccupped again. I badly wanted to go into my car and cry alone, I didn’t think I needed to embarrass myself further in front of Devin’s brother. I peeked a look at him and he was looking at me concern written all over his face. “I don’t think you should drive home in this state,” Cam answered, reaching out to grab my wrist. “Come on, I will take you home. I will have someone get your car to you,” he said. I opened my mouth to protest, but he was already pulling me away, so I went along with it, lowering my head to avoid people from seeing my tear-stricken face. I didn’t want anyone asking me what was wrong because what was I going to say? ‘I’m pregnant for our boss who is engaged’? We stepped outside and Cam gently pulled me in the direction of his car. He opened the door for me and waited for me to get in before turning to the driver’s seat. He climbed into the car, closed the door. He paused. “You okay?” he asked, turning to me. “Yeah,” I tried to keep my voice calm. “I’m fine.” But I did not pull off the shades, so when the car pulled out of the garage and unto the road, I turned my head to the window side and cried. My life felt like it was crumbling. The last time I felt like this was when my mum was ill and I could not get money to pay the bills. Thinking about that made me cry harder because it made me think about Devin and how he had saved me. The drive to my house was silent, save for my quiet sobs and sniffling. Cam was kind and sensible enough to not ask me if I was crying or why I was crying. When we got to my house – a cute little bungalow surrounded with beautiful flowers – I quickly wiped my tears off my cheeks and turned to Cam. “Thanks for the ride home,” I said, pulling off the shades from my face. “You shouldn’t have but I appreciate it,” I told him. Cam furrowed his brows at me. “I’m not leaving,” he said as he pulled the keys away from the wheel. I stared at him. What was he saying? “What? Why?” “Ivy, you are clearly still in a bad shape. Why would you think I would leave you like this?” He asked and without waiting for a reply, he unlocked the door and climbed out, turning to the passenger’s seat to open the door for me. I watched, my mouth slightly opened as I climbed out of the car, confused but grateful, as he guided me towards the door. I dipped my hand into my purse and brought out my house keys, opening the door. “You really don’t have to do this,” I said, as we stepped into the house and closed the door behind. “I want to,” he insisted, putting a hand on my back and guiding me into the living room. “Really, I’m fine, Cam. You don’t have to go through the trouble,” I told him. “Aren’t you supposed to be at the office?” I wondered, remembering that I met him when he was going up into the office. “Oh, it’s nothing important. I was supposed to meet with Devin to discuss some changes we are making to the company,” Cam answered casually as we took our seat on the couch. “Does he know you won’t be there for the meeting?” “No, he doesn’t. He deserves a nice surprise, don’t you think?” Cam asked with a careless shrug that made Ivy almost smile. Cam was the only person who would dare to stand Devin up without any consequence. That could mostly be due to the fact that they were brothers with equal rights to the company, and it could also be because Cam was the only person who did not care much for Devin or his rules. “Now, tell me what my dickhead of a brother did, so I can come up with many creative ways to kill him,” Cam said, reaching out to hold my hand. I stared at him in shock, my mind whirling in confusion, shock and fear. Did he know? f**k, how did he know? What was I going to say to him?
