“What do you think I can do?” I asked Sabrina, a hint of desperation in my voice. I was regretting ever signing the contract with Devin in the first place. All I could think of now was the fact that my father abandoned me and how that made me feel. How would Mirabel feel knowing I gave her up and for what? Money? Would she even know I exist? Or would Devin tell her that Caroline was her mother? He wouldn’t be that callous, would he? I thought of Caroline taking care of my daughter, and I physically cringed. She would never be able to take care of her the way I would, she would never love her because Mirabel would always be a reminder that Devin and I had history and Caroline would hate that.
“Just…take a rest for now, okay?” Sabrina said, still rocking Mirabel back and forth
