CHAPTER 14
Such a testament was something foreign to Sergey. He had endured plenty in his years as one who led others to a life that rendered them able to feel again where their senses had lapsed.
However, this was something completely new to his ears and something he had not heard of. He masked the element of shock in his expression and cleared his throat.
“What did you do afterward?” Sergey had lost sight of his mission for a moment in the arrival of this confession.
“I didn’t know what to do for years until one day I was entrusted to kill a man who was the same character as the man my sister had killed. They had told me that it was a divine execution, the most righteousness, holiest of all acts few only dreamed to commit. We were God’s people, or so it was said.”
“Your thoughts on the man that had told your father such a thing..the pastor you spoke of…?”
“He was a madman who was arrested a year afterward for some rather severe felonies. Sometimes, the one who leads the most will lead them to the most destructive. Power is a predecessor of downfall if the wrong person possesses that power. I just never thought he would do those things that I had heard spoken of him. It was almost too horrible for words.”
“What was the name of this Pastor?”
“Robert Stonefield. Yes, Pastor Stonefield.” He thought back on this deplorable man and shuddered. “He was a very sick man.”
“Please, continue.”
“Well, there was a raid on the Church and…”
