J A M E S I drifted in and out of consciousness, the periods of staying alert while in and being surrounded by overwhelming darkness did not help matters. I don’t know if it’s been hours, days, or weeks, but it feels like I’ve been here forever, at the mercy of Carlos and the pain. I haven’t slept. They don’t let me sleep. I gain peace only when my mind shuts down from the torture, and they have ways of bringing me back when I’m worn out for too long. Carlos made sure that his entrance was always noticed by me.
