Chapter 6: A Dangerous Secret

219 Words
The kiss changed everything. Mira told herself it was a mistake. A moment of weakness. A lapse in judgment. She couldn’t afford to let her emotions get involved—not with Adrian Carter, a man whose power stretched far beyond her world. But resisting him was like trying to paint without color. Impossible. Adrian was relentless. He didn’t bring up the kiss, but his actions spoke louder than words. He started showing up at her studio late at night, standing behind her as she painted, his presence heavy in the air. Sometimes, his fingers would trace the edge of her canvas, the touch barely there yet sending electricity down her spine. Other times, he whispered in her ear—about art, about business, about things he never told anyone else. It felt dangerous. Intimate. And then, one night, everything shattered. Mira had gone to his office to drop off some sketches when she heard his voice from inside. She wasn’t eavesdropping—at least, not at first. But something about his tone made her freeze. “She can’t find out the real reason I hired her,” Adrian said, his voice colder than she’d ever heard it. Mira’s breath caught in her throat. What was he hiding? And more importantly—was she just a pawn in his game?
