We stopped at one of my warehouses. It was a large building with a big gate in front. The rooms were empty and there was rust on the walls. I bought the building to start up an auto repair factory.
I stepped out of the car and pushed the gate open. Then drove in.
“We would spend the night here,” I said calmly.
Jack and Hanna stepped down from the car.
“What died in here?” Jack asked, covering his nose with his hand. Hanna did the same.
The whole place was stinking. I never had time to take care of it because of the business trip I had been involved in during the past couple of weeks.
We walked into the rooms and found a safe spot to lie low for the night.
Jack took out his phone from his pocket and the flash. He inserted it into the phone. He was busy finding out what we needed to do next. As for me, I needed to inform the guy from the bar what had just happened, that Charles was dead. I walked a few steps away from them.
I dialed his number and he picked.
“Thank goodness you are alive,” he said, feeling relieved. “We heard about the explosion at the safe house.”
“Charles is dead, he came looking for us there, the fire would have done all the work,” I said.
“I think you are mistaken, my men and I did a thorough search of the place before the police arrived, but we found no prints of Charles in the house.”
“Are you saying he wasn’t in the house? I asked, my jaw tightened, my fist hit hard on the wall beside me.
“I'm so afraid.”
I threw the phone on the floor. Jack and Hanna ran me.
“What happens?” Hanna asked, staring at my phone scattered on the floor.
“Charles isn’t dead,” I revealed, turning my gaze at them.
Jack staggered backwards. “That can’t be,” he said, his voice hardly heard. “If he was not dead, then he would be—“
“Looking for us,” I completed his statement. “We need to start strong, they won’t find us here.”
My phone rang, Jack picked up my phone from the floor and handed it over to me. The screen had cracked at the edge, but I could still see who was calling.
“One of my men who had been working undercover had told me that Charles had a flash drive in his safe at his mansion which had all his dirty businesses. You need to steal it, that is one way to bring him down,” he said.
“How can I get into his room, that building is well secured at all times?” I felt this urge that wanted me to do it even though it was risky.
“He has a grand party in his mansion tomorrow night. You need to be there, but in the meantime you need to lie low until then.”
“Fine, but I need to come up with a plan to take him down,” l said.
“There is one but... I don't think you would like it.” His voice came out calmly.
I sighed, and didn't say a word, as if I knew what he was talking about.
He continued. “We all know he wants Hanna, you need to take her to him, you need to let him know that you took her by mistake and want to give her back, try to buy his trust before you strike.”
“How sure are you that he won't shoot me on sight?” I asked. My voice sounded firm, “He might recognize me.”
“I can’t promise you anything,” he said, then his voice went mute for a few seconds. “This is the only intel we have, this is your chance to stop this, to take your revenge.”
I inhaled briefly. Turning to face Hanna and Jack, they stood beside me, curiosity written all over the place. The phone wasn’t on speaker so they couldn’t hear what we were talking about.
“What did he say,” Hanna asked before I could hang up the call.
“He...,” I paused and looked at her. This plan might break her. Taking her back to that monster who just wants to take all her father's wealth.
“Sam, you are not saying anything.” She snapped me off my thoughts.
“He said we needed to steal a flash drive from Charles' house, it contained some illegal deal which could take him down for life.”
“That is what I am talking about,” Jack shouted. “So what is the plan?”
I froze, my eyes tilted at both of them but didn’t say a word.
“Sam, you have to tell us what is going on,” Hanna said, torching my arm.
My jaw tightened. I looked at her one more time. “They want me to take you back to him so that I can get access to his room.”
Hanna stepped backward, Jack's face was filled with surprise. “Is that what they said?” She asked.
I nodded but didn’t say a word immediately.
She walked a few steps away from me. “Hanna,” I called, she paused, turned to me, tears were dropping from her eyes. She wiped it in her hands. “This was the only option,” I finally said.
“I can’t Sam, that man is a monster. He killed my father and forced me to marry him,” she cried. She walked closer to me and held me by the hand. “Promise me you will come back for me.”
I nod slightly, turning to Jack. “We have work to do.”
We walked back to the room. I pulled out my pistol from my waist and placed it in front of me.
“Jack, I need you to hack all the CCTV cameras on Charles' mansion. I need to know every part of that building,” I said, my voice sounding commanding.
He smiled like he had been waiting for it all his life. “I need a computer to do that, there are some layers I need to break through, I can’t do that with my phone.”
I remembered that I had a computer in my villa.
“I think I know a place where I could get one,” I replied.
Jack pulled out a small device from his pocket and gave it to her.
“That tracking device, keep it on you at all times, so that Sam will know where to find you,” he said, giving it to her. “It is indestructible, no one would have known you had it.”
We entered the car and drove to my villa. It was 5am in the morning, the night was fading away gradually. We arrived minutes later. I put my security password before the gate opened.
Jack couldn’t believe how rich I was. This was ten times bigger than the safe house he was staying in.
“Yo man, this house looks crazy, are you Batman? Because this place is dope,“ he shouted, walking around like he was a tourist.
“This way please,” I calmly said, pointing at the entrance door, not minding the praises.
I took them to their rooms, gave Jack the laptop he asked for. I told them to freshen up and meet me downstairs in thirty minutes so that we could all rehearse our roles.
Jack was able to hack into their system, helping us to see all parts of the mansion.
The number of guards in the room and the type of weapons they held.
I told them that when I delivered Hanna to them and all misunderstandings had been solved, I would take permission to use the restroom but would use that as an opportunity to sneak into Charles' room and unlock the safe.
Jack didn’t look satisfied, his eyes kept tilting to the computer.
“What Jack, let it out,” I asked.
He cleared his throat first. “What if the plan didn’t work according to plan? What if you can’t make it to the safe on time? Hanna’s life might be at risk,” he said, spreading his hands in the opposite direction.
I didn’t reply immediately. He was right. Even in the movie, plans might not work as expected, then we must have a plan B.
“Plan B, you need to set a false fire alarm to distract everyone in the room, so that you could buy me more time.”
“That's what I'm talking about, Baby,” he replied, hitting the table.
Then, the doorbell rang. We all turned in unison to the CCTV camera.
