NICHOLAS’S POV The morning sunlight spread across the walls, shining softly, but I didn’t feel its warmth. For days now, the air between Ava and me felt heavier than any fight we’d ever had, all because of my foolishness. Every time I passed her, she quickly looked away, cold and withdrawn, as if I had put a barrier between us she couldn’t break. Maybe I really did. I stood near my study window, watching the city skyline, my reflection staring back at me in the glass. I wasn’t the type to live with second thoughts, I had built my empire by striking fast and never looking back, cutting out emotion before it left me vulnerable.
