2. Daisy's POV One life hack I have come to understand is to be careful what you wish for. A couple of years back, this peace and quiet was something I would have killed for although this extreme? I am not so sure. I had no idea how long but I had been standing right here at this spot as I watched the happy couple in front of me. The heavily pregnant wife and the happy husband. Seeing them so happy together broke my heart into shreds but I knew there was little or nothing I could do. I was still contemplating on what to do when he looked right at me and I instantly turned and started walking away briskly. No idea where I was going but I just needed to go away. "Daisy, wait!" I heard my name but I did not stop. Clutching against my umbrella, I was already having the hardest of times fighting against the threatening tears. "Daisy!" I still would not stop. "Dai- ow!!!" I heard him exclaim and I halted. I should have warned him about that bump. I mean, I used to warn him whenever he seemed to be getting clumsy. I stopped moving. I did not turn but I did hear him approach. "I wanted to talk to you." He said to me, "Chance, there is nothing more to talk about." I said to him, "No. You don't understand. I was actually going to come over and explain everything to you." He said. Now, I did turn to face him. "Were you ever going to tell me?" I asked him. "Daisy..." He called me softly, eyes streaming with guilt. I nodded. "Of course." I responded as I wheeled around and started walking away briskly. I could still hear him calling after me but I did not stop. I just needed to get away from him despite fighting the urge to want to turn around and cry out loud to the very depths of my soul for him to see what he had done. A couple of minutes later and I was at the park which was now empty as the rain was doing no justice to the day. I sat on an already wet bench, holding my umbrella over my head as I overlooked the world of people running around. Most of them seemed really happy and cheerful as they ran around, others seemed really sad while some just did not care what was happening around them. I wondered, which group do I really belong to? Just then, my phone rang and I had little trouble trying to balance the umbrella and fishing out the phone from my coat. It was Joy. My agent. "Daisy here." I said to her, "You weren't in your apartment when I dropped by. Where are you?" She asked me. "Somewhere." I muttered. "Okay. But I have news from Lisa's production." She said, "And?" I asked her. "Actually... it's not about you. He reckons you were a great actress during the days of your prime but they need a much younger actress to play Lisa." She said, "Of course." I muttered. "But I could have them try to fix you in somewhere though or maybe get you into that thingy Lionel suggested." She said, Now, she was trying to patronize me. "No. It's fine, Joy. I never expected anyone to want anything more to do with my comeback after the blacklisting saga." I said. "But your name has been cleared. People have to move on now." She said, "I don't think people forget. I mean, my name has been sullied already and this is what now? The hundredth role I have been rejected. Do me a favour, Joy, take a rest. I'll be fine." I said. "You sure?" She asked me. "Of course." I responded, trying to force some brightness in my tone. "Alright. You will be fine and don't do anything I wouldn't do." She said and hung up. She was tired of me as well. I could tell. It was best to let her go at this point where everything would rapidly go down so she does not crash with me. I stood up now as I decided it was time. I have seen enough of the world to last me a lifetime and somehow, I just had the oddest feelings that I might be seeing it again. I shrugged my shoulders as I turned away, and found myself at the train station. A few moments later, I was seated by the window side of the train as two teenagers seated opposite me kept whispering and trying to catch an unaware picture of me. "She's the one, I tell you. The murderer." One whispered. "Right. But she's looking so pale." Her second chipped in. "Probably karma. Who knows." The first said. "I heard she f****d the judge just to clear her name." The second said, "A lot of things they do for money..." They kept chatting away until we arrived at my stop. I stood up and was about to walk away when I realized the girl with the phone was still trying to get a picture. I stopped a moment then walked over to her as I snatched her phone. "What are you doing?" She yelled at me. "You want a picture..." I said then turned the phone camera and took a selfie before handing her the phone. "You got one. Now go gloat to all your friends....." "Miss, are you getting down?" I heard the voice of the young train conductor. "Sure. Have a nice day gloating, ladies." I said and I walked away. I had only walked out of the train station when I realized I had forgotten my umbrella in the train. "My damned luck." I muttered as I knew the train was probably gone already. So I walked into the rain until I could find a cab to take me home. There was no elevator but I managed the stairs until I happened on the last floor, in front of my apartment. I saw a package in front of the door and it read 'FROM JOY.' I smiled as I opened the door bearing the package and entered before going to set it down on the sitting room table. The content was a little cupcake and there was a 'happy birthday' card inside as well. I scoffed. She was the only one who remembers my birthday these days. Gone were the times when I lived in my big house and it would get flooded with gifts and flowers from fans. I took the cupcake and stuffed it into the fridge. I was in no mood to eat anything. For a moment, I stood there by the fridge. Something purred beside my leg and I looked down to see Leo stretching out in front of me. "Hey, buddy." I said and rubbed his back a little. It was sad to know that I would be leaving him so I grabbed a pack of cigarettes and a lighter and made my way to the rooftop. "Happy thirtieth birthday to me." I whispered as I lit the cigarette, drawing and blowing out a cloud of smoke. The city was beautiful and far ahead laid Hollywood. The biggest dream of all. At least it had been my biggest dream but now, all I was going to be remembered as was the failed actress who sleeps with people's husbands, directors and the crown of all; 'THE MURDERESS'
