FRIEND FROM EARTH

5. Azrael's POV She was really something. This human. Holly. I mean, Daisy. Whatever. They looked just the same. I had been sent right to the front of her home but she was not there. I could feel it somewhere in me that she was gone. And right then, I knew where she was. I shut my eyes and immediately, I was in the hospital, staring across a wide hall at her ward. She was talking to some police men. Wow. A lot of hours had passed by human time. I could see her frowning at them right now as one of the policemen stormed out and walked past me. I heard him mutter the words, "Attention seeker." Now, he had better not be referring to her. I thought as I glared after him until he had disappeared through the elevator doors. Turning again right now and I saw the other police officer taking a bow before leaving. Well, at least someone respected her. She was talking to a lady beside her but she did not seem so happy which made me wonder what happened. Perhaps, I should get a little into their conversation but then the lady left and a couple of moments later, Daisy got off, unhooked herself from the human plug of water and wore the lady's coat. She snuck out and I was so amused as she passed right beside me. Not passing, she actually bumped against me. I was stunned. That was not supposed to be anywhere near possible. But I had felt her and I started to wonder why. I turned to look at her. She looked fine to me now. Perhaps, I had imagined the bump or wait, certainly, they were not hoping I would kill her myself? Were they? A thought suddenly crossed my mind and it was the fact that she was probably going to harm herself again. I decided to go to her apartment and wait. How did I know she was headed there? No idea but I was right. She came down from the cab and started acting out funnily. I found everything about this frail young woman amusing that I found myself smiling. Reapers do not have time for silly things like smiles. But something about Daisy Malloy was so endearing. Endearing for how long it lasted because suddenly she glared at me and said. "You." She could see me and I needed to leave. I willed myself back to the headquarters but then I could not. I willed myself to some distant land but I could not either. It was like my powers had just abandoned me. So, I ran. I broke into a run as I tried to get away from her but she kept following me. "What is happening to me?" I cried as I kept snapping my fingers to no avail. Daisy suddenly started telling people to stop me which was when my heart dropped as I turned in horror to see if anyone else could see me. To my relief, they all stared through me. It was only Daisy who could see me. I decided to cross the road and probably take a quick turn so she would lose me when I heard the little scream from her tiny lungs. I saw her freeze as the huge tanker was about to hit her. The thought of her frail body in pieces there got to me and I screamed at the top of my voice. "Stop!!!" Time stood still and there was Daisy in the middle staring at the driver. Nothing moved, not even the woman across the street drinking her coffee or the fly from the other side. I had done it again successfully. I had interfered with death again and this time, there was no getting out of it. I decided to go to her and see her face when she turned and looked at me. Why on earth was she not frozen in time? Was she immune to my powers? Everything was still that way. "You're a grim reaper, aren't you?" She said, "You can see me?" I asked her. "So, I guess I am dead now that I'm out of my body..." She said and looked to the ground beside her and gasped. "What?" I asked. "My body. Where is it?" She demanded. I was confused. "You're in it." I said to her, "Wait, I'm not dead?" She asked and started touching herself. "I'm not dead!" "Okay, we know that already but how can you see me?" I demanded. "I don't know but wait, if you're not a grim reaper then you're a magician. No wonder you saved me!" She said as she approached me. "You know that too?" I asked. "Yes and I wanted you to come with me and testify to the police so they stop thinking I'm crazy or some sort of..." She was thinking about the words to say. "Attention seeker." I supplied. "Exactly!" She said, I started walking away and she followed just as everything went back to normal. The tanker driver was confused and so was I. I have never been more confused in my life and I needed to figure this out. "Lady, you're way out of your league there and I should go." I said and I snapped my fingers again to disappear but nothing happened. "Um, is that supposed to make me stop or something because if it's not working, then I need you to come with me." She said and I suddenly turned to her. I grabbed her by the hand and drew her into the nearest alley as I pushed her against the wall. She was shocked and looked scared. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." I said as I took my hands off her as I noticed how scared she looked. "I'll accept your apology if you can come with me to the police." She said to me, "You don't get it, do you?" I asked her. "Get what?" She demanded, searching through my face. "You're not supposed to see me!" I thundered. "Why?" She asked. "Are you hiding from someone?" Why was she so dumb? "Not that. I'm a grim reaper, okay? And we're not supposed to be having this conversation." I said. She went mute for a moment when she suddenly blurted into a laugh. I was confused as to why she found meeting a grim reaper amusing when she spoke again. "Okay, I totally get it now. You're quite interesting but I'm no longer into the whole acting shenanigans. You're trying to stay in character which is cool. Nice costume by the way but I'm not buying it." She said, "Lady, are you okay? Like, I just stopped time before you." I said. "A simple hypnosis trick any good magician who knows his onions can do. You're very good by the way." She said, So, I rescued an unbeliever. "You don't believe me, then could you explain this." I said as I snapped my fingers. Nothing happened. It was like my powers had deserted me again. "Why are you always snapping your fingers? Haven’t you gotten a hang of that act yet?" She asked me, excitedly. "No! You're frustrating me! Just...shut up!" I said as I turned away from her and I started snapping my fingers over and over again. The damned thing was not working and my frustration was actually growing when I felt someone touching my back. It was her. "Hey, it's okay." She said to me with that voice that also belonged to Holly. I could remember her in the past humming as she climbed the chair that day. Suddenly, I felt peace and I snapped my hand again, a little pull and I found myself in the great headquarters hall. Finally, I had gotten away from her but then everyone started staring weirdly at me. It was a mixture of shock and horror when Ruke rushed forward. "What happened?" I asked him. "We should be asking you." He said, looking horrified. "Asking me what?" I demanded. "I don't know but it would seem that you have brought back a friend from earth." He said. "What friend?" I asked. "The human behind you." He said, pointing tentatively. "Wow...." Someone behind me whispered in awe. It was at this moment that I turned to find her staring in amazement. I was definitely done for this time!
