It was late in the evening when we managed to sneak away from the house undetected. It was surprisingly hard; typically, no one paid attention to mine or Wolf's comings and goings, other than Teddy, Cutter and Dame, but all day, we couldn't seem to do anything without someone popping up out of nowhere.
Silence filled the truck.
I watched the scenery pass from the passenger window as Wolf drove us to the Carvers' home. He had a meeting that he was already late for, but insisted on taking me.
I don't know why this felt like a goodbye instead of a see you soon moment, but I was fighting with my heart not to break, reminding myself that this was just temporary.
