Chapter Thirty Six

1065 Words
"Why did not I think of this?" I said to Kaylie after I pulled her out of the music hall and went outside. It was crazy how a solution could be just right there and you could still not see it. Kaylie was so confused about what I was saying and unluckily for her, I wasn't able to explain it to her further because madame Morris came striding to me with a glare. "Where were you?" she hissed and I thought that she was going to punish me for abandoning my chores but she just stared at me with a rather displeased expression. But I could tell that it was not for me so I have to ask her. "Uhm, is everything okay?" "Not quite," she told me sternly. "Your brother's soon-to-be-wife is here and she wants to talk to you." Kaylie and I looked at each other. "Blasie?" We even mention her name in unison. "Yes, I believe that is her name. And if I could be frank about her, I do not like her. So just go to her, she's in your quarters waiting for you." I did not have even the time to ask why Blasie was here in the castle. I just went straight to our quarters and I did found her sitting on my bunk bed. She was admittedly pretty on her winter dress, but she is Blasie and Jang and I just hate her for that. "Finally! I thought that you're not going to talk to me," she said while acting like she smelled something foul. "What's that? What's that smell?" I knew that what she was trying to complain about was the smell of our room from the mattress that was covered in a lot of layers of cloth just to lessen the cold coming from the windows, so I did not reply to her in that matter. "Why are you here, Blasie? Is this about my brother? Have you talked to him already?" She nodded and a big smile was plastered on her face. "Yes, I already told him about what you asked me to relay to him. Your brother is worried sick for your aunt, but he could not leave his post in the meantime. He is needed at the station." "Is that so? But this is already the third month of his border patrol duty. He's supposed to go home for the next two weeks." "Well, about that... That is the reason why I came here to you, Rainha. I have to tell you what your brother and I have talked about." It was my turn to get confused. "What is it?" "It is about our wedding. Garreth and I have decided to get married next week." "WHAT?" I could not believe what I just heard. She is not serious, isn't she? "Yes, you heard me right, Rainha. Your brother and I have decided to get married earlier that we have actually planned. And the wedding will be in Carmel." "What? But that's too far!" I protested. "And besides, could you not postpone it for a later date? My Aunt Milca is still missing! Surely my brother had thought about it? He's not going to get married while our aunt is still missing!" She nodded but she doesn't look like she was trying to be sympathetic with me. "I know that, Rainha, and I am very sorry for your loss. But we have to do what we have planned---" "My loss? What my loss? Aunt Milca isn't dead!" She looked at me as if I was already delusional. "Of course, it must be hard, Rainha, Denial is one of the stages of grief, after all. But we have to do what we have to do. I'm pretty sure that if your Aunt was still here then she would have approved of the wedding---" "What are you talking about, Blasie? My Aunt is not dead! She is still alive!" "I understand how you feel---" "No, you don't!" I said and I was already glaring at her. "Because if you do understand what I am feeling right now, then you would have postponed your wedding!" "It's not just my sole decision, Rainha. Your brother also thinks that this is the best way---" "I can't accept that unless I hear it from his own mouth. I have to talk to my brother, even if it means that I'll have to go to the border where the Ruthless Blizzards occur." She looked alarmed at this. "But it's already been decided by the two of us, Rainha." "Not yet," I replied. "I only heard you. I still have to confirm it from my brother." "Are you saying that I am lying to you right now?" "I did not say that," I told her and my hatred for her just surged to its maximum capacity. "All I said is that I want to hear it from the brother because I have to ask him why is he still going to push through his wedding if our Aunt Milca is still nowhere to be found. I want to know what is his reason because there must be a very good and reasonable reason for this to happen. Unless he never said it." "See? So you're telling me that I am lying!" I did not respond to her anymore because I know that we'll just fight more than we already did and I did not like it. Even though I hated this girl for quite some time now, she's still my brother's fiance and I respect him so much. I guess I'll just have to endure her presence right now. Now that she's showing me her true colors I have no choice but to assert my place in my brother. "Do still have something to tell me, Blasie? Because if you're already finished, I will go now as I have lots of things to do. I am not like you who don't have to work." "That's not a nice thing to say," she said but I was already walking towards the door of our quarters. "Just go home, Blasie." "Just accept that I am going to be your sister-in-law," she replied and that pissed me off. We don't have to be enemies, you know," she added. "I agree. But we don't have to be friends either," I responded.
