Chapter Seventy

"But how? What happened to the two of them?" Mitaur shrugged. "Who knows? No one knows about it because that is something that took place ages ago. I can assure you no one has been able to keep a record on that part of Aure's history. That is why I am so impressed and shocked that you have dreamt about that. It just strengthens the possibility of you being a Snow Gypsy as well." "But that will be too much," I said, hesitating. "I may be a Snow Gypsy's daughter, but I don't think that I could be considered as full-fledged Snow Gypsy too. And we don't even know if what I dreamed were true or just a figment of my imagination. My mind tends to be creative sometimes, you know. It might be caused by the Crown prince telling me about the deities. I think I have absorbed that subconsciously." "We might don't know what is real from your imagination, but the fact that you dreamed something like that is odd enough. Even if it turns out to be fiction, no one dreams like that on normal occasions." I have to agree with what Mitaur just said. "Well, that's true. And I also don't think that my mind can create such a complex and fascinating story. Deities can die if they touch gold in the place that they were born? That is some high-level piece of writing. I am positive that I can't think of something like that in my life." Mitaur laughed. "But that's beside the point. Just think of this, Rainha. If you are truly the daughter of a Snow Gypsy, then that makes you the last living descendant of that ancient tribe. And what does that make you? You will not only be relegated to a higher social status, you will also have power beyond your imagination. I don't know what will happen but I believe that one day, the hidden power of the Snow Gypsies will awaken from you and that will be your greatest asset. I also believe that this is the reason why these unknown people are after you..." I gasped. "Do they want my power for their own?" Mitaur shook her head. "Could be. But it could also be that they want to get rid of that power, that's why they are hunting you. And there is also the chance that they just don't want you to be acknowledged as a Snow Gypsy's descendant." I nodded at that possibility because it was indeed possible. If ever there was a person that could be possibly a descendant of a very important tribe, then maybe that person could affect someone or something and that is why they are after me. Maybe they don't want change. Or maybe they don't want someone like me to ascend to a higher level. "Rainha, do not tell anyone about your dreams, okay? People might find it bizarre and disrespectful of you. Let us make yourself safe from now on. You will try hiding your identity from others until the day that you can reveal it, understand?" I nodded again. Mitaur was right. I don't need to expose myself to other people. They don't have to know who I am. And I agree with that with all my heart. I don't want to live a messy life on my own so I have to remember to not brag about my origins. After that, I did not notice that I also slept, and just like that, I was back again in this dreamland in which I am the deity of fire and volcanoes, Alfiora. I would have realized sooner that it was another dream if I just noticed that this was not something that you'd dream about. I was taking a bath in a hot spring, and Volo was there watching me. It was strange that I was allowing a man to look at me while I was taking a bath (and a swim) naked, and I was starting to feel bad about this. But since I was just a mere presence in this dream, all I could do was wait for the things to unfold here. "Are you sure that it was Kentan? How can you tell?" Volo asked me and he was behind me as I stood to get my clothes. He was so intimate with me that I think something was brewing with these two already. Were they lovers? That is what I could feel about them. Volo dried my hair using a towel that he was holding. He was washing my hair dry from my behind, so it was a very sensual position. "I knew that it was him, Volo. That man had the same power that he had. We finally found him." "If that is true, then that's good," said Volo again who was now wiping my body with the very same towel. I was starting to feel shy about what was happening but what can I do? I can't even utter a word of protest in here. It feels like I am just a spectator and all I can do is to watch them. "We will know where he is and what he is doing, since he is just a mere mortal now. We have to make arrangements for this situation." "And what do you plan on doing?" "It depends on what he is going to do first. But I will tell you this early that I do not like him here in Aure. So I might banish him away again." "That would be great...." I said with a weak smile. And without a warning, Volo kissed me and I kissed back. It confirmed what I was thinking. They were lovers. We were lovers. The kiss turned into a series of other kisses, and our hands started to explore each other's bodies in that kind of touch. I don't know which felt very marvelous and holy about this thing. Is it because two deities making love felt so divine and eternal or is it because these two loved each other very much and they have decided to do something about it? Is this even allowed? I did not have the answers, for sure, but it was kind of a thrill to not have an assurance and yet here we are, having the best time of our lives. With Kentan as a human on the horizon, this was the best thing that could have happened in my entire life as a deity. "We have to become like him too, Alfiora," said Volo to me. I was in his arms and we were about to sleep. I think we were in his place because this was someplace that I did not see. "We have to be stronger. Once Kentan comes back, he would easily defeat us. You know that, right?" I nodded. "But I am not yet ready for that. I am scared..." "Don't worry. I will be the first to do it. And then you'll follow my lead once I come back. We don't have to do it at once anyway. That would pose a threat to our people. A kingdom without a guardian deity would be prone to attacks." "You are right. We don't have to do it right now. Kentan is still not a threat," I added but Volo was already determined. He wanted to become a human as soon as possible, so it was not a shock to me when one day he just disappeared and never came to see me again. That year, winter never came to the land of Aure, but an infant was born. Volo was reborn as a human.
