Chapter 5The day passed in slow motion. Arthur, Reba’s uncle, had arrived about an hour after Reba had left. He didn’t speak, didn’t approve of Shiro remaining unmated after Torben had passed away, but he occupied the table in the corner where the dominants from earlier had sat. Astra served him coffee, but he declined anything else. Five minutes before closing time he got up. “Thank you for the coffee.” Shiro nodded, wanting to ask if he was leaving, beg him to walk them home, but he didn’t. Walking from their apartment to here was nerve-wracking in the early morning hours, but it was worse in the afternoon. “Thank you for dropping by, Mr. Arthur.” Astra smiled at him and waved as he exited the bakery.
