MATE TO THE INHUMAN ALPHA

chapter 14

Alpha Leon gripped his throat like he was choked by a thorn. He was actually throwing up blood instead of the food he ate.

He managed to get on his feet, but the strength to stand is what he had lost already.

Before Nykon could return from Sephora's room, he had already collapsed on the floor. He glanced around to see the chef in tears and Elsa staring at him.

Sephora arrived in the dining room to get her Alpha unconscious on the floor, and his mouth filled with blood.

She got on her knees beside him. "Alpha king…" she shook him but he wasn't making a move. "Alpha king…" she called again and then broke out in tears.

Her eyes met that of Elsa who threw glares at her. She turned to Nykon. "Let's get a herbalist before he gives up." She suggested.

He nodded. "I'll go call him now." He left them.

Sephora held his warm palm, her tears dropped on it.

"My mate can't give up." Her wolf uttered.

She narrowed her eyes. "Do you know who poisoned his food? You know I can't do that to him." She asked.

Mia became dumb, it didn't say a word to her again. She was so worried to hear it speak… but it didn't.

Elsa moved to her and hit her shoulder. "You have succeeded right? Your plan has worked out the way you want it."

She sighed. "What plan are you talking about Elsa? That I poisoned my mate's food huh?"

"I hate it when you call him your mate. He has rejected you and that's why you want to kill him." Elsa retorted.

Sephora looked off to her, what matters to her now is the life of her mate. She caressed his hair in tears.

"The herbalist will be here soon." Nylon announced drawing their attention.

Sephora nodded. She can't wait to see him come back to the real him even if she's his slave.

What happened reached the ears of all the workers that they all surrounded the dining room. Their glares focused on Sephora.

The herbalist didn't waste time to arrive in the palace, and he was directed to the dining room where the king laid.

He had already missed the herbs for his treatment before coming since Nykon explained everything to him.

He stared at the king to see the blood on his mouth. Truly, he was poisoned. He knelt down beside him. "I need a bowl of water and a small towel."

Sephora got on her feet instantly and left to get it. She returned and handed it to him.

"Nykon, the guards should be ready…he will be taken to his room once I'm done cleaning him up." He ordered.

Nykon nodded.

He cleaned up the blood that's on his mouth and at the corners, then the ones on his chest.

Nykon ordered two guards that carried him to his room and left.

"I want to be with him alone." The herbalist referred to Elsa who was trying to leave his room with him.

She stepped back and left for her room instead.

Sephora wasn't getting herself. All she wanted was to get feedback from the herbalist, so she waited for him in the corridor.

Minutes elapsed, yet the herbalist wasn't out. She sat down on the floor and dozed off.

When the herbalist was through, he came out to see her asleep beside the king's door. He tapped her shoulder and she got awake.

She got on her feet instantly. "How is he now?"

His stares affixed on her. "He'll be fine, but it might take some time."

"Is he awake? Can I go see him there?"

He nodded. "You can go see him, but he isn't awake yet and it might take some time or even days."

Her eyes widened. "Days…?" She leaned on the wall.

"You're his mate right?" He asked.

She blinked severally. "Why asking? How did you know?"

"I perceived a scent from him, and that same scent is in you too. His food was poisoned… so you have to be careful not to lose him." He narrated.

Sephora nodded. "Thank you so much, I'll be vigilant."

He left her and then she went into the room to see him lying on his bed. The herbalist had covered his body with the blanket leaving just his head disclosed.

She sat on the bed. Her eyes affixed on him, then the tears she had been holding rolled down.

"He will be awake in two days." Mia announced.

She was shocked. "Isn't that far? I'll miss his rudeness."

"The poison wasn't made to kill him… but to weaken his trait."

"What trait are you talking about?" Sephora asked.

"He's a primordial trait." Her wolf replied.

She heaved a big sigh and stood up, she glanced at him for the last time before leaving his room to hers.

"Who did this to him? Even the moon goddess knows that I'm not responsible for this selfish action… I can't do this to my mate no matter what." She sniffed. "He hasn't been poisoned all this while, but today that I cooked for him… .why should it be now? People will think I'm a murderer."

She was weeping bitterly. "I'm glad he isn't dead… in fact, he can't die. I'll patiently wait for him to be awake again, but I know he will hate me the more I think that I did it." She wiped her face and laid on the bed.

Despite not being herself, she dozed off.

After an hour had elapsed…

A heavy knock on the door woke her up, she forcefully moved to the door and unlocked it.

Masha dashed in immediately when the door was opened, and she closed the door again.

"I'm glad you're out… who did that?" She asked her.

"The chief beta. He ordered the guards to release me that my stay there isn't as important as the Alpha king's life."

She gripped Sephora's hand. "I knew that he was poisoned. Is that true?"

Tears rolled down Sephora's eyes again. "Yes, I prepared his lunch and served him… only for Nykon to come with the message that he's dying."

Masha rolled her eyes. "Who poisoned his food?"

"I don't know Masha, I'm at a loss for words." She covered her face.

Masha breathed heavily. "Was the herbalist called?"

She nodded. "According to him, it will take some time or even days for him to be awake."

She widened her eyes. "Days…?"

Sephora narrowed her eyes.

"The chief beta sent for you in the king's chamber immediately." Nykon announced, he didn't bother knocking since he was hearing their voices.

She sighed. "I'll be there."

"Who knows what they're up to this time? But you need to be strong for him at least… and be strong for yourself too okay." Masha assured her.

She wiped the tears on her cheeks and left the room with Masha to the king's chamber to meet the beta's all seated.

"Greetings all." She greeted them. Her eyes caught Elsa and Diana standing beside her. Nykon, Earl and two other guards stood there too, then Masha who had arrived with her.

There were three other maids at the other end staring at them.

She noticed that their stares were on her except that of Masha who was glaring at Elsa.

"We had that the King was poisoned and you're the one who prepared and served him the meal." The chief beta stated.

She acceded. "Yes, I cooked and served him."

"I've seen him lying on his bed, and the herbalist had told me that he will be awake after some time or days…" he coughed slightly. "There's nothing much to say about this, rather than you going for punishment."

She shook her head. "But I didn't do that, how can I poison my own mate? That I prepared and served him doesn't mean that I'm responsible for the poisoning."

"If you aren't responsible for it, then who is? You prepared the meal and served him and you're still denying… you already hate him because he rejected you, so there's all reason that you'll do that." Elsa yelled at her.

She bit her lips. "Shut your mouth Elsa, I've warned you several times not to interfere in my matters… don't push me to the wall."

"You can't do anything Sephora… I will not keep mute when you want to kill our Alpha king." She snapped.

The chief beta got on his feet. "For committing such an abominable act, you'll be in the dungeon until our king is awake."

"No, she did nothing to him." Masha spoke out.

He glared at her. "Were you in the dungeon and also in the kitchen?"

She shook her head. "But ma'am Sephora didn't do that, she can't poison her mate."

Sephora glanced at the faces surrounding her and sniffed. "I just want him to be awake, even if I'll be there, but I want him awake."

"And you'll be starved." He remarked.

She glanced at Masha and then bent low. She lifted her face again to get that of Earl who gave her eye contact.

"Take her away from my sight, you disgusting bastard." The beta sputtered.

She was dragged away from the king's chamber to the dungeon. It's already her home and she's familiar with it.
