Once trust is broken, it’s hard to get it back,” she tells Ethan. “Sorry, Amy, I didn’t know,” he says, staring at me with a look in his eye that I can’t decipher. “It was probably a bad choice from the start. If you pick the right person, you don’t have to worry about them flirting with someone else.” I feel tears welling in my eyes, face turning hot with embarrassment or anger, I can’t tell. Is he just trying to provoke me, or is he really saying I was an idiot to trust him in the first place? When I’m sure I’ve got the tears under control, I return my gaze to meet Ethan’s. “That certainly was the case,” I say, trying not to sound upset. “Thank you for reminding me.
