The King's Possession

The courtyard froze. It felt as if the very rotation of the earth had ground to a halt under the sudden, suffocating weight of Dominic’s Alpha aura. The air turned heavy, instantly thick with the sharp scent of ozone, lightning, and raw, unrestrained power. It became physically painful to breathe, the atmospheric pressure dropping so rapidly that the space felt entirely devoid of oxygen. Several low-ranking Omega servants who had been trimming the hedges nearby instantly dropped to their hands and knees. Their bodies trembled violently as they pressed their foreheads against the cold stone pavers, gasping for shallow breaths they could barely draw into their lungs. The veteran guards stationed along the perimeter shifted their weight, their faces draining of color as they instinctively lowered their eyes, refusing to challenge the terrifying entity that had just stepped into the light. Julian remained pinned to one knee. The sheer, invisible pressure of Dominic’s mental command bore down on his shoulders like a mountain of lead, forcing his joints to lock. The ancient stone pavers beneath his knee began to spiderweb with tiny, sharp cracks under the immense, downward force. Sweat poured down Julian’s face, tracing a frantic path past his temple and dripping onto his pristine silk tie. His arrogant, untouchable posture was completely shattered in a matter of seconds, stripped away by the absolute authority of the pack’s true ruler. "I won't tell you a second time, Julian," Dominic growled. The sound wasn't human. It was a dark, guttural rumble that vibrated through the foundation of the estate and rattled the teeth in Selene's mouth. Dominic descended the grand stone steps slowly, deliberately, like a predator tracking a helpless target. Each heavy thud of his black tactical boots sounded like a death knell echoing through the silent courtyard. His striking silver eyes were completely blown out, the pupils swallowing the irises until they looked like twin abysses filled with a terrifying, ancient rage. He didn't just walk; he commanded the very space around him, his presence expanding until it filled every corner of the open air. "Step. Away. From. Her." Julian swallowed hard, his throat clicking dryly as he forced his head up just a fraction of an inch to look at his older brother. The muscles in his neck strained against the Alpha's crushing command, turning a deep, angry red. "I was only... welcoming our guest, Alpha," he choked out, his voice thin, breathless, and laced with a desperate attempt to maintain some semblance of dignity before the watching guards. "I meant no disrespect to the pack or your house. "Dominic didn't answer with words. In a flash of terrifying, supernatural speed that blurred the air, he closed the distance between them. Before Selene could even blink, Dominic’s massive hand shot out. His thick, scarred fingers gripped the lapels of Julian’s expensive silk suit, lifting the heavy Lycan completely off his feet as if he weighed nothing at all. With an explosion of raw, animalistic strength, Dominic slammed Julian effortlessly against the massive stone pillar right beside Selene. The impact was thunderous. The ancient stone structure groaned under the force, sending a small shower of dust and pebble fragments raining down onto Selene's hair and shoulders. Dominic leaned in, his towering six-foot-four frame completely eclipsing his brother and casting a massive shadow over the wall. His sharp fangs slightly elongated, glinting dangerously under the afternoon sun as his inner beast pushed forward, demanding the blood of a challenger who dared touch what was his. "She is not a guest. And she is certainly not yours to welcome," Dominic whispered, his voice dangerously low, a lethal purr that sent a wave of cold terror through the entire courtyard. "She belongs to me. She is my possession, Julian. If I catch your foul scent on her wing or in her presence again, I will strip you of your rank, tear your throat out with my bare teeth, and feed your remains to the rogues at the border. Do you understand me?" "Understood... Alpha," Julian gasped out, his face turning a dark, bruised purple as the oxygen left his lungs under Dominic's crushing grip. His eyes were wide, filled with the sudden, stark realization that his brother would genuinely kill him right here in the open without a single shred of hesitation. Dominic released him with a disdainful, brutal shove. Julian stumbled blindly, coughing violently and clutching his bruised throat, before quickly scrambling backward. He turned and fled into the dark corridors of the mansion, his pride completely dismantled, not daring to look back even once. Selene stood pressed flat against the opposite stone wall, her chest heaving as she tried to process the violence that had just unfolded before her eyes. Her breath came in short, ragged gasps. Deep within her soul, her inner wolf was howling in a chaotic, terrifying mix of sheer panic and absolute, forbidden exhilaration. Seeing Dominic assert his supreme dominance so effortlessly over the man who had just threatened her triggered an instinctual, primal spark of absolute safety deep within her core. Her wolf wanted to run to him, to bury her face in his neck, and inhale the comforting scent of his power. But Selene violently shook the feeling off, clenching her fists until her short nails bit into her palms. No, she screamed at herself internally, fighting the dangerous instincts of her own nature. He is the monster who ordered the slaughter of your pack. He destroyed your entire life. Do not let him trick you into feeling safe. Dominic turned his massive frame toward her. The murderous rage rolling off his body didn't vanish, but as his blown-out silver eyes locked onto her pale face, the nature of his anger shifted. It mutated into something deeper—something dark, possessive, and intensely suffocating. He stepped forward, closing the distance between them until he was trapping her against the stone wall, completely blocking out the remaining sunlight. "What did he say to you?" Dominic demanded. His hand shot out, his large, warm palm wrapping firmly around her waist. With a single, unyielding tug, he pulled her flush against his hard, heavily tatted chest. Selene placed her small hands flat against his chest, desperately trying to push him away, to create even an inch of breathing room between their bodies. But it was like trying to push against a mountain of solid granite. She could feel the rapid, powerful, and heavy thudding of his heart beneath the fabric of his black shirt, a rhythmic reminder of the sheer power he held over her entire existence. "He said what everyone else in this castle is thinking," Selene said, forcing her voice to remain steady, refusing to let him see her cry as she glared up into his dark features. "He said that I'm just a temporary toy for a cruel king. But he also mentioned something else, Alpha. He mentioned a Crescent Key. He said you slaughtered my peaceful people because of my bloodline. He said I'm a map to a vault." Dominic’s grip on her waist tightened instantly, his fingers sinking into her hip with a force that bordered on painful, anchoring her to him so deeply she could feel the intense heat radiating off his skin. His jaw ticked violently, a dangerous, unreadable shadow crossing his rugged features as he processed her words. "Julian talks too much for a man who values his tongue," Dominic murmured, his voice dropping into a velvet, seductive register that clouded her senses. His thumb slowly began to trace a slow, deliberate circle over the fabric of her skirt, sending an unwanted jolt of electric heat straight to her core. "You shouldn't listen to a pathetic beta who envies his king's prizes." "Is it true?" Selene pressed, her voice cracking with a sudden wave of deep emotional pain and grief for her fallen family. Images of her burning home flashed behind her eyes, fueling her anger. "Look at me and tell me the truth, Dominic! You didn't just attack us for territory, did you? You killed my alpha, my childhood friends, my entire home... all for a hidden key? What am I to you? Just a hostage? A tool to open a door?" Dominic leaned down, his chiseled face burying into the curve of her neck, his lips brushing against the sensitive skin right below her ear. The intoxicating scent of fresh rain, cedar wood, and dominant male pheromones washed over her, making her knees feel dangerously weak. "You want to know what you are to me, little wolf?" he whispered, his grip sliding up her back to cup the nape of her neck, his fingers tangling in her hair to force her to stay still against his mouth. "You are the only thing keeping this entire territory from burning to absolute ash. Your blood holds a secret that your pathetic, weak late Alpha was too cowardly to protect. You aren't a tool, Selene." He pulled back just an inch, his dark silver eyes locking onto her trembling lips with a terrifying, ravenous hunger that made her heart stop. "You are the prize. You will stay in my sight. You will sleep in my wing. You will live in my bed. And when the time comes, you will open that vault for me, and me alone. Until then, you do not talk to other men, and you do not run." Before Selene could even gather her thoughts to fight back against his possessive claim, a loud, high-pitched, and frantic electronic chime echoed from the pocket of Dominic's tactical pants. Dominic let out a savage growl of pure annoyance, breaking the intense spell between them. He let go of her waist just enough to pull his military-grade satellite phone from his pocket, his thumb smashing the receive button. He glanced at the encrypted screen, and his expression instantly transformed into a mask of cold, lethal stone. "Speak," Dominic commanded into the receiver, his voice reverting back to the tone of a cold military commander. A frantic, highly distorted voice bled through the speaker, filled with static and panic, but loud enough for Selene’s sharp, supernatural hearing to catch every single syllable."Alpha! Emergency! The northern border outpost has just been violently breached! It's the rebellion... they've set fire to the pack archives, and they're chanting your name in the streets! They claim they've come to liberate the pureblood princess!" Selene’s heart stopped. The pureblood princess? Who are they talking about? She looked at Dominic, trying to read the micro-expressions on his face, but he had completely locked down his emotions. Dominic snapped the phone shut with a brutal click, his eyes flashing a lethal, blinding silver as he looked back down at her. He didn't look surprised by the attack; he looked ready for a slaughter. "It seems your friends are early, little wolf," he growled, his hand locking onto her wrist with an iron grip that left no room for argument. "We're moving to the bunkers. Now."
