“I’m sorry.”
I blurt making her smile fall but the guilt was basically choking me especially after seeing her sincere smile. It’s the first one I’ve gotten.
“I really am sorry Kathryn. I didn’t know what Lexi was doing to you, I swear.”
“What?” Her lips part.
“If I knew she marked you, let alone was hurting you I would have stopped her.” I rake my hair back. “But I didn’t know or stop her sooner and for that I am really sorry.”
Silence.
I apologize wholeheartedly for the first time since I don’t know when and I am replied with complete and utter silence.
“Kathryn? Did you hear me?”
I wave my hand in front her face but get nothing back. I watch her for the 60seconds she decides to keep quiet and out of the blue she blurts, “okay” her malfunction clearly fixed.
