It’s cheer week which means all week, there will be a sea of pretty girls in small skirts and a lot of attention and eyes on us as football players.
As vice-captain Renner makes it a point to steal the secret psych list from coach’s office every year so there are no surprises. The team and I even skip assembly and meet in the locker room to find out who got who this year.
After making a whole show of it, Renner finally gets to me and his smile says it all.
Something is wrong.
“Oh wow, this is a surprise.” Renner stares at me in astonishment.
“Spit it out Walsh.” I roll my eyes.
“The captain got the drop-dead gorgeous with legs meant for the runway, the student body vice president, Kathryn Carmichael.” His voice deepens when he says her name.
