DANIELLAH
It takes 15hours, 21minutes and 17 seconds to go from Tokyo to my mother’s house Briar.
Before that it took me 12minutes to grab my essentials and leave our suit with my husband behind me on the phone.
And that was after Conrad had to practically peel me of the floor I was so disoriented after calling and calling Kai only get his voicemail.
He found him, my father found him and now the king knows EVERYTHING!
After two years of successfully hiding my brother from the media and Oscar, he found him and ripped the little world he created apart.
My father not only exposed Kai, but I have also never in my entire life heard my mother sob the way she did on the phone which means he cut her in half too.
It took her 6years to recover from divorcing him, 6years to find love and get both her kids back but it took him 6minutes to light it all on fire and burn it all to the ground.
It was hard enough to sneak a crown prince, heir to a tarnished throne out of the Paris boarding school he was shipped to so I will be damned if I let Oscar pull the rug from under us.
“Where is he?!” I storm into my mother’s house still wearing the wrap dress from last night now with Conrad’s jean jack around me.
We didn’t even check out of our suite let alone change our clothes as we rushed to the airport but Conrad did say Emily and Jeremy would handle everything.
“Honey.” My mother is sitting on the stairs as she holds her house phone.
She looks like she hasn’t slept in days, I can hear her husband George on the phone down in the kitchen, but I can’t hear or see my baby brother.
“Ellen,” my voice gives away. I must look like wreck, but I don’t care “where is Malakai!”
“He’s gone,” her already puffy eyes fill with tears. “He took him Ellah, you father took him.”
She stands to walk towards me but I step back.
“You promised,” I run my hand through my hair to stop the ringing. “You promised to protect him, you said if I leave him here that you would take care of him and protect him Ellen! You said—”
“—I tried.” She interjects and I nearly laugh.
“Tried? You begged me to leave him here with you Ellen! Begged!” I basically scream as she begins to cry again.
I didn’t want Kai to live with her because it would risk blowing his cover, I even had a house set up for him and Jonah, but Ellen begged me for a second chance and I gave it to her.
“Ellah, he is my son and I—”
“But I raised him!” I snap. “I was the one who got him out, the one who didn’t cut and run when things went south.”
“I know and I’m sorry.” Ellen is hysterically crying at this point but it doesn’t come close to the bloody murder I have seen Kai choke out because of our father.
“I don’t care!” I made it clear to her that she is no mother to me.
That ship sailed long ago but I am empathetic to her and agreed to be friends in order to make sure Kai doesn’t become the monster my father is determined to make him.
And unlike my brother, I remember everything that went down when they were getting a divorce. I remember the fights and the terms she agreed to in order to get out.
I might have forgiven her but I remember.
“I meant what I said when he arrived here, if you lose him—you lose me too.” I watch the color drain from her face. “Get my brother back Ellen!” I storm out.
I barely make it through the door before tears stream down my face again, it feels like all I’ve been able to do is cry but Kai and I promised each other to never cry in front our parents.
So I wipe my cheeks just as Conrad closes the door to the car, the look of pure despair and regret painted all over his face.
“I’m sorry Dans,” his voice splits me in half. “But he's already in Denmark, it’s all over the news and…” I don’t hear the rest of his sentence because the ringing in my head drowns everything out.
It gets louder and louder and louder to the point where it feels like someone is next to me with a bell and just banging it.
So to drown it all out, to make the banging and ringing stop I open my mouth and scream.
I scream and scream so loud the only reason I stop is because the screams turn into sobs when my feet give away and I practically crumble.
I feel Conrad’s hands wrap around me like a blanket before my knees hit the ground, kneeling down with me as he moves my face into his chest so I cry into him.
So I do exactly that as he rubs my back to calm me down.
If it’s all over the media it means our time is up because we only had 24hours to locate my brother and find him before Oscar literally buries him like he did Ellen when they divorced.
You can't even find my mom with a google search.
Which is the reason it takes Conrad and I, 7days to even be let in back into Denmark a place where Kai and I struggled so hard to leave only to be pulled back in.
Chief Seeds escorts me to my father’s office after making me wait for an hour, since we left so abruptly in Japan, Conrad had to fly back this morning to finish off the deal so I’m going in alone.
“Princess Daniellah Rose Le-Chasseur, of Denmark” King Oscar (aka my father) lifts a framed photo of Kai and me.
“Hilton,” I correct. “It’s Princess Daniellah Rose Hilton.”
He sold me off for a few buildings, the least he could do is address me right.
“Right,” he places the photo face down on the desk. “Is that why you think you can pull stunts? Because you’re a Hilton now?” His face is an impenetrable mask.
“Where is Kai?” My face gives away nothing too.
“Don’t you mean Matthew?” He picks up a file and opens it, “or should I say Matthew Hunter, nice touch translating his real last name to English.”
“Where is he?” I struggle to keep the malice off my voice.
“You know, I admit you and your mother had me fooled.” He lifts a photo and faces it towards me, “I had no idea what was going on for two years that has to be a record.”
He lets the photo of Kai, Ellen and I drop at his feet before picking up another photo and scoffs before facing it at me.
It’s Kai, Jonah and Wu laughing as they share drinks. He drops the photo and pulls out another one, this time it’s Kai kissing his girlfriend against her car.
“I didn’t know anything for two years, that’s 24months of being made a fool by my own blood. My own off-springs, my own—”
“Children?” I raise a brow and he scoffs before dropping the photo.
“Yeah right?" He scoffs, "children listen to their parents, children do what they are told.” He lifts a photo of Charlie, the boy who was a stand in for Kai in Paris. “You are not children and I think it’s time I stop treating you guys like one.”
“Well your majesty,” I drop down to the chair opposite to his desk. “You made sure to strip all the innocence of a child from us long ago.” I throw one leg over the other and cross my legs.
I’m in a navy tailored pantsuit with and white sheer blouse, my hair is held back in a French twist. My make up is minimal and leopard print pointy shoes are on my feet.
I dressed ready to face the devil.
“We had a deal,” he tips the folder and a bunch of photos all with Kai’s face fall at his feet.
He summed all my brother has built for himself in a one folder, two years of hard work just fell at his feet so I don’t miss the irony.
“Had?” I keep my eyes on him as he opens another file.
“Oh yes, had.” He sits on his desk and lifts a paper. “The little term you snuck in to make sure Malakai—well you know.” He shrugs.
“Where is Malakai, Oscar?” I repeat the question again.
“Contained.” He picks up another paper and signs it.
“Contained? He is your son!” I hate that he doesn’t even regard him as a human being, “where is he Oscar!” I drop my leg.
I hate that I’m giving him a reaction because that’s what he wants but I can’t take it, I haven’t seen Kai in days and my father is cruel man. I wouldn’t put it past him to hurt him.
“The only way you’re going to see him, is if you Google him because as your punishment for going back on our deal and betraying me. I’m banning you from seeing him, let alone being in the same house as him till further notice.”
“He’s my brother, you can’t ban me!” I practically jump off my seat.
“Watch me!” He stands, “I guess I should thank you because your little stunt benefitted me.”
What is he talking about?
“Because of you, I have leverage over the future King.” Oscar bends down and picks up a photo. “And her name is Kathryn Carmichael.”
He faces the photo of 17-year-old Kathryn Carmichael at me, it’s a yearbook picture that was taken recently.
“You should have seen the way he looked at her when she found out the truth, it was like someone was stabbing him repeatedly.” This sadistic man actually laughs, “he didn’t even care he was caught he just wanted her to look at him.”
“What did you do?” I cover my gasp with my hand.
“At some point I thought he was going to cry,” Oscar scoffs. “I haven’t seen Kai cry in my entire life but at that moment I was sure he was going to drop a tear.”
“If you hurt him,” I warn.
“Guess he’ll just have to learn like you did that, young love though very intoxicating is pointless and will eventually fade when you get older.” He hands me the paper.
I read the first words repeatedly but they don’t change, I’m holding a binding contract that Kai has signed. If he breaches, he loses everything.
The reason my father was so persistent about me getting married before I am 21years is because he basically owns us till we reach that age. It was one of the terms Ellen gave up in her divorce.
But the contract I’m holding states that my dad owns Kai till he is 25years and cannot by any state renounce his tittle or give up the throne.
Kai is 18years old, he was planning to give everything up the moment he turned 21 because he never really wanted it and our father must have found out because if he breaches this.
My father will go after Kathryn with everything he’s got and as the King, he has a lot.
If my father sold me off with a year left till I get my freedom, I can’t imagine what he’ll do with 6years. He’s not only going to break him but he’s going to unleash a monster to the world and then give it a crown.
“You can’t do this, we agreed Kai’s terms will be different from mine.” I look at the paper that is practically my brother’s death sentence.
After I learned what my father did to me with Aiden, I realized that he has no limits. That he doesn’t care about anything we want so I agreed to get married on his terms and not to put up a fight.
Only if he sent Kai free after high school and that included letting him make his choices in terms of college, marriage and future career.
We agreed that he would remove the leash on him completely, but he just tightened it.
“Again, that was before.” He smiles as I fall back on my seat.
My brother is doomed.
“When will you realize that no matter what. Even if you kick, scream or cry, that even if you run or get married and use your husband’s resources that I my beautiful daughter—” He cups my face and leans in. “—will always win.”
“It’s not over yet.” I pull his hands off my face and stand.
“Oh but it is because the king will always be triumph, even when you think I won’t.” He snatches the contract from my hands. “Now get out, you’re no longer welcome here Mrs Hilton.”
My father ladies and gentlemen.
A cold, narcissistic, sadistic man that has made every moment of our lives a living hell. A man so broken and trapped in greed and darkness that he covers every extension of him with it.
Unfortunately for us, Kai and I are extension of him.
He traps everything around him and chokes them or consumes them fully with his toxicity and if I let him do that to Kai, he will be worse than my father.
He will not only become him but he will exceed him.
But I rather die than let that happen.
“You forget one thing dad,” his eye twitches at the mention of a name I haven’t called him in years.
“What is that Ellah?” My heart sinks at the mention of his nickname for me, our relationship is damaged beyond repair.
I can see that now.
“I’m a Hilton now,” I raise my left hand to show him the ring and he scoffs.
“Is that supposed to mean something?”
“Considering as a Hilton I managed to fool you for 2years, I’d say it does.” I press my fist on his desk. “You’re used to going against me as your daughter, as princess but I’m a wife now.”
I’m free now.
I’m stronger now.
I am no longer the scared little girl he’s grown used to controlling and manipulating, “and I’m your worst nightmare.”
