VThe Lonely One He stood, letting the night-time breeze ruffle his hair and clothing. The wind bore little in the way of refreshment, being just barely less hot and humid than the day had been. His shirt still clung to his back and his hair felt damp. He would wait ten minutes more then go back to the hotel and shower. He would then relax in front of the TV, clad only in towel and order room service, letting the A/C keep the sultry night at bay. He nodded to himself and stared at the water. The koi were swimming still, describing arcs of ripples with their stubby dorsal fins and smooth flanks, making soft splishing noises as they glided through the water. His culture was replete with legends of these beautiful and graceful creatures. It was said that they were, effectively, immortal. The
