None of the Above
Maria pulls into the courthouse parking lot with James. She smirks at him. “OK, Crazy Train, what are we doing here? What’s the surprise?”
“You’re right. Nobody knows who James Wong is. More people know me as None of the Above Guy. So, I’ve decided to change my name…to None of the Above.”
An involuntary laugh takes hold of Maria.
“You’re laughing at how brilliant the idea is.” James undoes his seat belt, eager to go.
“You’re serious?” Maria rolls her eyes. “Of course, you are. I should have seen that surprise coming.”
James says, “Oh, that’s not the surprise.”
Maria quiets and stares intently at James. She’s almost afraid to ask. “What is?”
James bounces in his seat. “You’re going to change your name to More Jobs.” He cackles like a cartoon villain and rubs his hands together.
Her eyes turn murderous. Maria releases her seat belt.
James knows that look. He shoves open the passenger door and stumbles onto the asphalt.
Maria erupts from her car.
James says, “You wanted more jobs. There you go.”
These are not the words to calm Maria down. She chases James around the car.
James tries to reason with her as he circles the car. “Our names have to match the Take Back America endorsement. It was our idea. It’s the only way we can take back our message.”
Maria gives up the hunt and glares at James across the car hood. “I ought to kick your caboose. This is my stop off the crazy train.” Maria stomps on the asphalt. “I’ll never change my name.”
