Chapter 00006

Phil's pov I stared at the blood that seeped out of the rogue's mouth and made a map on the floor. My jaw ticked as I recalled her resistance and I wished I could bring her back to life just to have the satisfaction of seeing her die all over again. "What now Alpha?" One of my men asked me as I rinsed my hands in a clean basin of water. "Now we go to South Moon block" I replied with one last glance at the lifeless body before I made my way out of the dungeon. "Clean up that mess" I ordered the guards standing at the door. The rogue wolf was loyal to whoever she served and their cause. She was unwilling to give up any more information. The only hope I had to get some answers at the moment was to go to the southern moon block. I wasn't sure what exactly I was looking for or what I would find there but only time would tell. I slowly made my way into my house and my nostrils flared at the aroma of spicy food that attacked my senses. Vera, I knew she was in the kitchen. "You are back early" She smiled softly at me as I entered the kitchen. She was the image of loveliness with her hair tucked in a little bonnet and a spoon in one hand as she gripped the pan with the other and stirred whatever it was she was cooking. "I told you already, you don't need to cook" I furrowed my brows and her smile dimmed. "I enjoy cooking. It's a favorite pastime of mine and I have nothing else to do" She shrugged as she turned back to the cooker, hiding away from me. I instantly felt bad. "There are many charity events which Luna's are expected to host and attend across different Packs. You could look into what interests you" I suggested. "I think I would prefer to learn more about the Pack first before I venture out to other Packs. I'd like a tour of the Pack but if you are too busy I could go on my own" she said as she turned off the cooker. "The Pack already knows you as their Luna. You are their superior and you aren't expected to mingle among them" I retorted. "How am I expected to lead them if I know nothing about them? How can I earn their respect if I don't work among them?" She looked at me desperately. "You don't need to earn their respect. Once you became their Luna it was yours" I countered. "Maybe we could have a picnic then?" She tried again and I raised a brow at her. "I am busy handling important matters" I shot her down and I saw hurt flash in her eyes. "I'm lonely and out of my mind here. I am in a Pack where I know no one except you, and I barely know you, I have no one to talk to and I'm cooped up here most of the day with no idea what is expected of me" she expressed. "I didn't marry you for a love match. I needed a Luna" I reminded her. "I haven't asked for your love, only your company. I simply wish to get to know the man I will be spending the rest of my life with" she complained. "You know me well enough. Your only duty is to provide me with an heir, that is your sole duty which you seem unable to do. Leave the Pack to me, I am more than equipped to handle any issues which may arise" my voice boomed loud and clear. I was getting restless and tired of waiting for news that Vera was with child and I knew so were the grand Pack committee. "An Alpha is merely a pup without an heir" my father's voice echoed in my mind from the last meeting we had four months ago. I had to have an heir and soon to carry out our legacy, more so now that attacks have been made on my Pack. She stared at me silently for several moments, her eyes watering before she gave me a nod and turned back to the food. "I made dinner" she muttered and I let out a breath of relief knowing she had dropped the subject. "I'm not hungry," I replied. "I will be going to the southern moon block" I informed her after a moment and she stiffened before turning to me. "Why?" She asked. "I have some business to attend to" I replied curtly, my tone left no room for arguments. "Am I to go with you?" Her eyes shine with hope. "No, I am going with as few men as possible. You can stay here and Daniel, my beta, will help oversee the Pack" I informed her as her eyes dimmed immediately. "When do you leave?" She asked. "As soon as I'm able to set everything up for the trip. Let's say in a few days time" I divulged and she nodded wordlessly. "Are you visiting my room this evening?" She questioned and my stomach dropped. This was what our marriage had become in a mere six months. Our coupling was more of an obligation rather than an act of pleasure and from the distant look on her face whenever I spilled my seed into her I knew she felt the same way as I did. "As I said before, we keep trying until I know you are with child," I told her calmly and my jaw ticked at the look of despair that flashed into her eyes. "If I disgust you so much you might as well get pregnant as fast as possible" I sneered. "I'm trying" she whispered without refuting my words. At a loss for what more to say I made to leave the kitchen. "And Vera?" I stopped right in front of the door. "I don't need you preparing my meals. I have a cook to do that. Don't try anything funny while I'm gone as you'll be punished like ay other Pack members if I receive any I'll report about you when I return" I said before exiting the room. Anger cursed through me and I knew the only way to relieve myself was to go on a run. I felt my walls closing in on me, I felt a weight pressed down on my shoulders as I recalled the grand Pack committee asking me when my mate would host the next hunt. I couldn't tell them she never would because she is wolfless but the noncommittal grunt I gave them in response did nothing to get them off my shoulder. They were starting to ask questions like why my mate hadn't transformed since she came to the Pack, questions I didn't have answers to. I began to wonder if marrying Vera was the right choice. She had brought me more problems instead of relieving them and that was the last thing I needed at the moment. I broke out into a jog and after a few moments, my wolf clawed at me, begging to be set free. I was so crammed up with work, that I hadn't left my wolf out in a while. Without breaking my stride, I transformed into my wolf and dashed deeper into the woods. My wolf howled out into the night and just like that I pushed all my worries, all thoughts of Vera and the grand Pack committee to the back of my mind.
