Benson had reported late to work in the morning. His unsuspecting but worried eyes met no sign of his secretary’s notes and bag. He also observed she was yet to remove the brown tarpaulin cover from the typewriting machine. This did not bother him. Perhaps the girl was sick and would report late to work. She had never deviated from reporting early to work except when she was on leave. He pushed open his door and was startled to see that his office was as he had left it yesterday.
