Chapter 30 – Defeat
“I think he's coming around.”
Jerry groaned and opened his eyes.
A gray face with big black orbs for eyes loomed over him. Thin gray lips curved into a smile. “Welcome back, Sergeant.”
“Kajora?” Jerry blinked and tried to sit up. A sharp pain in his head made him groan again, and he lay back down on the sticky stone floor. He grimaced, remembering the blood and gore he must have been lying in. He squinted at Kajora. “What happened?”
“I was hoping you could tell me. You've been out for several minutes. I was about to give you a shot, but Calael suggested I wait. He thought there might be something... unusual... going on in your head. He thought it would be better to show caution than rush to the usual treatments.”
“Uh, huh.” He held out a hand. “Can you help me up?
