Chapter 22 Josef woke to a hammering on the door of the house. He shot to his feet, surging out of the chair he’d fallen asleep in, and had his sword in hand moments later. The room was dim. The shutters were closed but they’d normally let in a reasonable amount of light, so he guessed it was around dawn. It certainly felt too early to be up after his late night. The hammering at the door came again, but now he was awake Josef could hear something else… someone calling his name. He relaxed slightly. As far as he knew the attackers hadn’t been calling for people by name. He was still wary, though.
