Chapter 10 Daniel tensed as one of the outside wards was tripped, followed quickly by another. The night had passed and dawn was near, so he’d allowed the fire to die down. He could see easily despite the dim light and hadn’t felt the need to keep the fire burning strongly. The room was still warm enough for when Sarah and Mary awoke, and he would feed the fire again before it completely died. Another ward tripped. All three were from the same area, approaching the front door. Moments later someone started hammering on it. Daniel stood swiftly, drawing his sword as he did so.
